How are the roll offs going for Senior Shield teams?

Would be good to see some more teams listed.

:( :(

Craig
It would be interesting to see some odds on the teams.
I know you have no interest in the oldies brigade but you too will be there sooner than you think.
I'm allways confident that Sale will finish in the top half of the ladder this year and will only be getting stronger in the next few years as some more of our top bowlers turn the corner into the golden age of senior bowlers and begin to enjoy the game even more than ever before.
I'll go as far as saying that within the next 3 years Sale will be one of THE teams to beat in senior shield. ;) ;)

Hi all, I just thought I would bring this thread back to the top as Senior Shield is just over one month away, it will be great to catch up with some of the oldies at Ballarat.

Colac Men's team again looks pretty strong (biased opinion)
Neil Thompson
Merv Billing
Ian Poysor
Kevin Bagg
David Whitham

With only 2 weeks to senior shield i thought i might bring this back to the top.

Does anybody else care about us oldies:confused:  :icecream: :-#

Hi all, thought I would bring this thread back to the top as we only have just over a week to go.
Hey Craig we know you don't care about the "OLDIES" but some odds would be nice to see.
Just remember you will be a golden oldie someday.

Okay, seeing as though no-one else has had a go at this - I will give it a go. I am a “rookie bookie” compared to Craig. It is also very difficult to post odds when only three of the eleven teams have been posted. (Okay, all excuses now out of the way!)

Firstly - I will "do a Craig" and back my team to win

Colac - EVENS
Won by 7.5 points last year, were second the year before and won three years ago. First or second the last three years and with pretty much the same team this year. With new Captain Kevin “Bernie” Bagg injecting some fresh ideas they are the team to beat.

Bendigo – 3/1
Winners two years ago and assuming that both David F and Pat Fahy are in the team, I would expect they will be a big chance.

Latrobe Valley – 5/1
Consistent performers over the past few years finishing no worse than fourth. They should figure highly at the finish

Shepparton – 5/1
Another team that has been quite consistent over the past few years, including a second place last year. Will not be easy to beat

Geelong – 6/1
5th, 6th and 7th the last three years, but depending on who is in the team, I would expect the conditions at Ballarat to be much more to their liking.

Ballarat – 7/1
They have been in the bottom half of the field for the past few years, but I would expect a much stronger showing on their home lanes.

Sale – 15/1
Perennial “cellar dwellers” who have gradually been improving the last few years. With Bill Garantini and Gunther in the team they should make it pretty hard for all teams and I would expect them to move up a few places.

Warrnambool – 20/1
Recent years they have been in the bottom half of the standings. Have bowlers that are good enough to finish higher, but they all need to fire for this to happen.

Albury – 25/1
Difficult to assess. Hard to see how a team with Andrew Craig, Allan Smith and Mel Chettleburgh keep finishing down the ladder – but they do. Based on the last few years I have rated them lowly (however I would not be surprised if they made me look like a fool)

Ovens & Murray – 50/1
Great effort last year to finish third, but it was on their home lanes so I think they might struggle this year (sorry Freddo)

Sunraysia – 100/1
Someone has to be last, and my pick is for this year to be Sunraysia.

Hope you all get a bit of kick out of those odds. It is difficult to be too precise, when I don’t know who is bowling for half of the teams competing. Feel free to disagree and post comments. This is meant to be fun and not to be taken personally (after all I am only five years away from Senior shield, so I don’t want to make too many more enemies than I already have!)

"Geelong – 6/1
5th, 6th and 7th the last three years, but depending on who is in the team, I would expect the conditions at Ballarat to be much more to their liking. "
You better believe it;)

Thanks for the respect of our team, it's nice not to be the last place odds on favourites for a change.:D :D
Your right with our team, if the two lefties manage to find a shot in Ballarat and can throw a spark to the rest of the team i believe we will make it hard for a lot of teams.
Then again i'm always an optimist an wish for the best:rolleyes:

It is not that easy to form odds - esp on limited info. I now have a new respect to Craig who does it year in year out (but don't tell him i said that!).
It is likely that i have sold a couple of teams short and overrated some others - i only had the last three years of results to base my opinions. Might even have to sneak down to Ballarat at some stage for a look!

Gee it's great to see all of the posts for 2006 Country Cup, but don't forget us old timers we bowl next Sat/Sun at Ballarat and are looking forward to it.
It might not have the same prestige as Country Cup but bye geeez we have great time.

Do you have inside info on the team from Morwell? or are you just showing supreme confidence in your representative team?
(BTW - I will not be taking bets - if i lost $500 the wife would kill me!!)
Your theoretical bet reduces the odds of LV into 7/2.

Men

Terry Rowe
Doug Neff
Mark Trickey
Eddie Petersen
Ray Saville

Women

Denece Jones
Jan Greene
Marilyn Behncke
Moya Dahlstrom
Lyn Thatcher

This is the Shepparton team.

It would have been nice if somebody had a go at the ladies teams' odds. This is my first year so don't really know too many of the ladies.

All I know is that our team has already been having fun and plenty of laughs. I didn't post our managers originally as they were picked some time later but if anybody is interested it is Tony Hickling for the men and Sandra Howard for the ladies.

I would just now like to take this opportunity to wish all the teams good luck and bring on the weekend !!!!!
