emerson shild team

I will be serious for once - maybe for only the second time in my life

Who sets the criteria for the Zone finals as it appears that they are all different.
In a ideal world there are 5 teams in each zone and generally that would mean 8 games (each team twice) each bowler bowling a minimum of 4
Obviously in Central Zone with 4 teams they cut it down to 6games but each member is still required to bowl 4 games. (Should this have been reduced to 3??
I know for our zone the draw for this year will be the same as it has been for the previous two years with only 4 teams being represened we bowl 9 games (3 against each centre) each bowler minimum of 4
Yes there are occasions where you do stay on the same lanes for more than one round
and Yes with nine games obviously 1 team had to put their line up in first twice
But I think that overall I agree that 6 games is to short and there should be some requirement that a minimum of 8 games is required to determine the zone finalists ie if there are 4 teams you bowl 9 games if there are 3 teams you then bowl 8 or make a blind team and bowl 9 (Our ladies have done this for the previous two years)
What do you guys think??

Hey Chucky

See that we only hit second on the all time views and posts of Total Bowling - I also see that Roo Boy is feeling a little left out as he has already started CCup 2005.

Congrats to Geelong for sheer weight of pins bowled, although it was fun to sweep you guys 7-0 in our first battle :D Payback was a bitch though as you did us 6-1 the next time.

Congrats to Melton guys on a great team effort where everyone contibuted, our game wins were well up this year and really closed them out well.

Also congrats to Ballarat for the smooth running of the tourney (even though it was a long day) and the spread afterward...very nice (Geelong missed out ). Also a fair scoreable condition, even with the massive amount of corner pins left...telephone numbers would have been shot if pins older than a day had have been used

Had a fun time, thanks guys
Adam.

Hey Woza,

Cant agree more. the 6 games we bowled this year was just not enough, especially with a minimum of 4 games to be bowled.

Last year our zone had 5 centres in the mens, and we bowled 9 games, but this year, one centre was moved to another zone to compete.

It should be a minimum number of games in the zone final, of at least 8, max 12. With this also a minimum number of games for individuals of 4, as this allows you to get your team through the minimum numbers, and still be able to play with the line ups depending on who you play. In our zone final, no team was really able to play with the line ups, as they had no room to play with in making sure all bowlers completed the minimum number of games inside 6. It was a case of either 1 bowler got 6, the rest 4, or 2 bowlers got 5, the rest 4.

Perhaps someone should take this to the committee

In western zone (see above) 8 games were bowled (2 rounds of 5, 2 byes) and everyone bowled a minimum of 4. Seemed the right number although it made for a long day: 9am start, 6.45pm finish. If it becomes a 12 game zone final, it would have to be held over 2 days. Would mean a 4 team zone bowling 3 rounds over 2 days....unless bowlers are happy to bowl from 9am til 11pm. And thats a damn long day in 5 man team format.

I think that the zone finals either have to be 8 or 9 games - 4 games minimum. (Allowing 1 hour per game makes for an 8-9 hour day which is pretty much the norm these days) and still enables people to get home at a reasonable hour unless you are from Mildura I think by keeping the zone final to one day is one of the attractions of it.
In the end as long as each centre bowls against each other centre an equal number of times you can not get much fairer than that.

In the central zone maybe it would have been fairer to have a minimum of 3 games per bowler?

yesterday was the right size for one reason

one round too short

two rounds just right

bowl over 2 days, quality will drop off

its only a zone final, and 1 day is adequate

No sour grapes here just facts. Changing the lane draw mid tournament is not right especially without consulting all team managers. Obviously it is an advantage to stay on the same pair. Lets make sure this doesn't happen again. Keep the ideas for new formats coming. We really need to lift the profile of Emmerson Shield to be the most sought after and prestigious state event.
Doriana :) :) :)

oh by the way wozza

no need to gloat when your as good as we were in 3rd gear yesterday

and a message to everyone else

GEELONG
MELTON
ED FLEMMING

theres ya top 3 for the main game

congrats to adam on stealing a point of me yesterday, and to adrian getting 2 off flynny

they aint easy points to get, so well done

Well was lucky you took the 3 off the 3-6-10 in the 9th. Was saying to Hodgey, "just let him make a mistake" :p But if we carried our corners that game it would have been 250 each.

Shelts had a great day, everything clicked nicely for him.

take it while you can adrian, cause you got to come down here and play him now, he's nearly unbeatable here

well done to geelong and melton you guys where always going to make it in good luck in the final in geelong but i think geelong will go all the way bowling at home they will just be a power house at home

yes david it will but i do not think any one is as good as the team they have and bowling on there own lane are not going to help any one

Our bottom 2 bowlers are 170 average bowlers in league, and although they did bowl well on Sunday, you can hide them to a certain extent with only 4 games to be bowled. Geelongs depth is great compared to us, their worst average was still 190 odd and throw them in their home centre...gonna be some assignment. But we wont give up and you never know, maybe with enough strikes thrown at em, there will be a chink in the armour. Remember, we did sweep 'em on Sunday

There are chinks in the armour. Look what happens to the football team from the same town in the finals

The bigger they are the harder they fall.

Lets see how they handle the Home Town Pressure

Let them start favourites cause that means that there are going to be seven other teams gunnin for them

Hey rychenroller - ave's mean nothing Its all about the points, Werribee proved that

True that, we finished 400 pins behind Geelong, but only 4 match points and a couple thrown away. Just where you put the games is the important thing.

well heres a lil story for you wozza

melton beat us 7-0

we lost 3 1/2 points for the rest of the day

you just sit back and watch my friend, you might learn something

can't wait to see all your 220 average bowlers hit geelong, and see what they average
