How to finish third 600 pins in front of second - Easy dont win your points - dont win overalls

Nothing against Werribee they are a good side and they definetly cost us Emerson in Shepp and played a hand to our demise in Morwell but in the end it is not about scores it is about points.

I pose these questions
How many games in which they were winning were lost in the 9th 10th Frame ?
How many games were lost by 10 pins or less?
How many overalls were lost by 10 pins or less?

Morwell had the highest pinfall at Emerson last year and finished third!

Why because we could most probalby attribute about 8 if not more points to the above questions - 2 overalls come to mind - 4 points

I think that the current format for Emerson is good

Everyone is guarnteed a minimum number of games - Lifts the anti from CCup, Rachuig etc as you could make the team and sit on the pine all weekend.

The Zone finals add a new element of suprise and prolongs the tournament by a month or so and gives everyone the chance to finsih in the top 5. :wink:

Yes there was a hiccup with the lane draw.
Mentone got to bowl on the same pair of lanes twice in a row, when they beat Ed Flemming 6-1 and Werribee 7-0.
Mind you Mentone bowled their brains out against us, we shot 1070 that game and didnt get a point.
Werribee was also on the even lanes 4-6 games, where we had to enter our line ups in first.
Werribee men had 3 of the top 4 average bowlers for the day, Porto 237, Max 222, and myself 217, we won 6 points between the 3 of us.

What can you do? :roll: :?
 
It's only Thursday and i'm getting rather antsy, whos Colac got, i don't think i've seen there team anywhere on here.
 
I'm just hoping Merv's one of them, he can still give anyone in this neck of the woods a run.

Only bowled enough each game to beat my opponent. 5 games, 5 wins.

Thats all that matters. Can say l was happy to bowl 235ave for the 5 games, and get 1 back on Porto. But he showed us all in the end just how good he is. As after all he had the centre record shot at him, and then upped the antie next game, with his 300.

With the format of emmerson shield, it shows that you dont need the highest averages, but the bowlers that will not give up, and fight all the way to the end. These type of bowlers are more likely to win games, as they just never give up, as wa sthe case with a couple of guys.

I know we won a couple of games, and overalls in the 9th & 10th frames, over the course of the 6 games. I also feel that 6 games was not enough to really show the best of all the teams competing. Should have been 9 games, and a minimum of 5 games for each bowler. The 6 games, with a minimum of 4, made it harder to have the correct line ups throughout the day.

Hey spoon, maybe you guys should have used our tactics for the line ups. It didnt matter. We had our team selected in place, prior to the match, and just had the bowlers in the posiiton they bowled best. We found this has worked at all venues (except death valley - Morwell). Our 2 wins in the final, and 3 wins in the zones we have used this tatic. The bowlers are much more happy in the position they are used to, as this is a comfort zone, and reduces the presure the team.

I must say though, the 2 games against Werribee, were the highlight of day, as we all have a great rivalry, and respect for each other, resulting in the great atmoshere when we bowled.

A think that a problem that Werribee may have had was not enough individual wins. I think they had a bowler 0-4, and this is a problem in a points only competion, withour peterson points. They won less than half of the indivdual games on offer. I know us at Ed Fleming, did not have a bowler loss more than they won, and this is part of the reason why we got up on the other teams.

Werribee, shot 600 more than us, but only approx 300 more than Mentone, in 2nd. With mentone bowling on the same pair pf lanes 2 games in a row, was a big help to them as they had just beated Werribee 7-0 & then beat Ed Fleming 6-1.

Hey guys at werribee, not having a go at any of you, as all put in your best over the day, and this was obvious. You did not give up, even when it looked all over at the half way mark. You fought back, and made a contest of it right down to the end. It's not going to be the same without you all thier to make the place that much more fun, as chucky just cant do it all on his own, as he is to serious when he bowls. When he isnt bowling that is another story.
