Emerson Shield - 2007

It is mostly guys that post Noelene, so i guess by extension it is mostly the Men's section that gets discussed.
I think if you read most of my posts here and on Country Cup, i usually mention both divisions and put on stats for both divisions - this time was the exception.
suckhole;)

Why dont you go back to 4 zones as per original emerson top 3 from each 12 in the final. Still a zone final for the smaller centres and centres with 24 lanes plus host final. Emerson has the potential to overtake both Dunn Shield and Country Cup in being the premier team event in Victoria.
In just looking at the mens division alot of past winners and runners up have failed to consistently be at the state final (except for shepp). So it is extremly competitive.
They made a good rule change this year in that the vacancy cannot win points which encourages people to us the draft. So they are prepared to listen.
I feel that there needs to be more direction in the running of the zoe finals ie one round, two rounds positional rounds every zone appears to have somthing different. Maybe instead of leaving the decision up to the hosting centre just make an overall hard and fast rule that all finals abide by

How does a north, south, east and west split look gary?

Here goes a "Ladies Post" but it is only to confirm that Sale ladies won't be going to the repecharge.

As for the Sale men, unless somebody is willing to step up and organise it (Grumpy is interstate presently and will be for another couple of weeks) they will not be going either.

As for ideas well I'm plumb out of any during this time of year. :(

Guilty as charged

I think 4 zones would make the zones too small. Some would have 4 centres and others five. Would make the zone pretty easy if you had 3 teams qualifying out of 4 though. Also 12 teams in final makes for a lot of bowling - 11 games per day - currently we bowl 10 and 8 and saturday is already a very long day - not sure many people would want 22 games in two days

Originally it was North West East and Central. Could look something like this

North - Mildura / Echuca / Wodonga / Shepparton / Bendigo
West - Horsham / Warrnambool / Ballarat / Colac / Geelong
Central - Nth Geelong / Melton / Werribee / Altona / Epping
East - Sale / Morwell / Narre Warren / Mentone

You could make an argument to put Horsham as north although they are further west than north.

The main reason the zones currently use slightly different rules is that the zones all have different numbers of teams - if all were equal i bet all zones would be the same rules

Hey Gary,

as we keep adding in Altona, OZ Tenpin also have another centre, Greensborough, who actually competed a few years back. The last time we had 4 zones l think. I know it was when Geelong held the state final last time, as Greensborough made it through in the womens l think.

Just another spanner for the teams in teh zones, but if they came as well, would that even the zones up?

northern zone stuff, apologies for any spelling mistakes, its straight off a fax

Does this mean WOZA that you and some of the other high average bowlers at Morwell might take an interest in Emerson if and when they can settle on a format that is fair all round.
Or are you just putting in your two bobs worth for the sake of a good argument.

just curious

If both Greensborough and Echuca competed next year (plus Altona) that would make it 20 teams which does even things up. I like the 2 zone idea but not so keen on the 4 zones for reasons mentioned before. Maybe this years format of 3 zones top 2 per zone plus repechage will be a winner and we will stick with that. At least there are lots of options

What happened to Warrnambool ladies. We haven't been included in the might be for repecharge. We weren't even included in the results for our zone. Thanks but we did finish 5th.
Yes big chance we will have another go.

I'd say you were not inlcuded in the repechage list because you mistakenly did not appear on the zone results. Attached is the Women's zone results for the West -- with Warrnambool included :D

I definetly have an interest in Emerson would love nothing more than to bowl in it and will be bowling Emerson iin the near future if I have my way.
But while the sun rises each morning and sets each night you will never see me in a morwell shirt for emerson.

I think if the format for the zone finals is tidied up and consistant across all zones it will only increse the popularity of the tournament. Only one zone had the positional round and as a consequence one team that finished second after playing everyone once has to face the repocharge final to make the state final.

I was under the misconception that there were also ladies bowling in Emerson! Apparently not by the posts.

I have it on good authority that there are many women who read the thread but refrain from posting anything.

But don't you worry, I keep the men here honest. If they start to forget us the superior gender then I let them know all about it.

This was more evident in the Country Cup thread from a couple of years back!! lol ;)
