Emerson Shield - 2007

:D :D :D are u sure criagggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

i heard its horsham then shepp, then mildura, with i think 5 games to go
Well if Horsham gets through that is going to make for a very competitive repechage - assuming both teams that miss out go to repechage.

OK,

so we have our first 6 finalists sorted

Men:

Narre, Mentone, Colac, Warrnambool, Shepparton, Horsham

Ladies:

EFL, Epping, Werribee, Geelong, Shepparton, Bendigo.

A total of 11 centres will be represented at the State Finals so far. This is a great way to show the diversity of the Emerson Shield, with so many centres represented.

Now onto the repercharge on Sept 2nd, at Altona.

Repercharge final:

As the final is only 4 weeks now.

When do all the centres need to let Goldpin know they will be competing?

It would be good if the final numbers could be known early, so that we can plan for the day. If all centres turn up, this could be a very long day.

Which centres are going to attend?

Men?
Ladies?

Interesting to see EFL have a team in. Do you have to have a centre to represent. I want to put a Mill Park team in to lol. Sorry but i just couldn't help myself lol

Phil

i'm a little confused to why 3 zones were all run differently

sort of falls into the rules for some and not for others category

Congratulations to shepp and horsham in the men and shepp and bendigo in the women good luck in geelong and well done to the other team it was the hard weekend for everyone ;)

Craig,

I think that is something that needs to be looked at for this event.

If Goldpin want this event to be the stand out teams event in Victoria, then they need to look at making a few changes l feel.

When you look at Country Cup, all the centres are dying to participate, and they are able to field teams, and the banter is all in good fun.

When you look at Dunn Shield, all the AMF centres are also able to field teams, and the banter starts early as well.

But when you look at Emerson, centres are unable to field teams, or unable to field a full strength team.

I have not competed in Country Cup, but l have competed in Dunn Shield, and love both events, as they are different.

Dunn Shield is overall centre (Mens & Womens) head to head matches, but also has the peiterson points system (1 point for every 50 pins).

I am not sure what the answers are, but l would love to see this event get the same support from the centres / bowlers that these other 2 great events do.

The changes this year, are different, but the thing l cant stop thinking about is that almost every year, the format is changed, the zones each run a different format, the zone finals are all on different dates. The only constant there seems to be is that it is always different each year.

Just my thoughts.

hey congradz to every one that bowled at horsham, just like to add personally loved the lanes on saturday, had a few splits on the sunday and was disappointed in my bowling on the sunday lol. could have pulled it up a bit. but good bowling to every one and hope every one does well in the finals.

Its a big mixed bag though Lance...if you locked individual centres into fixed dates for rolloffs and finals, I'm sure we'd see an uproar. Dunn shield rolloffs are catered for when the time best suits the centre and is rarely changed. I know one centre changed the time of their roll off (not the date) to accommodate the sports series tournament (dunn shield that is) but I think that is an exception, rather than the norm. This is the conversation you get between a committee member and a centre representative.

Comittee member: "lets have the zone rolloff this date"
Representative: "Cant do, we have this on"
Comittee member: "Ok, how about this date"
Representative: "No good, such and such have this on"
etc...

As for bowlers representing centres...for the most part, the best bowlers in the centre try for it, Werribee, Colac, Melton would have had their best bowlers, not sure about Ballarat but they used to be strong. Warnambool didnt have Jason Way, Geelong didnt have the Flynns although they have bowled in the past. I love Emerson as a tournament, its my favorite one for the year but other bowlers I guess have other commitments and desires, you cant please all the people all of the time.

The rules I would definitely agree with you on though. If one zone has a positional round, then so should all. Not a huge fan of the repecharge idea, would rather see 4 teams from a 7 team zone and 3 teams from a 6 team zone go through.

Have some northern zone stats here, will post soon.

Nice and tough out there ;)

Is there a reason why we have to have zone finals?
With EFL & Rosebud gone now.
Eastern zone has 5-6 teams?
Western zone 7 teams?
Northern zone 5 teams?
= 17-18 teams. Bowl against each other once
instead of 10 teams bowling against each other twice
A lot less expense to all bowlers & no-one has to miss out.
Food for thought?

Dunno mate, but personally i like the zones, super competitive, always nice catching up with friends and it gives us more to talk about.

I reckon the banter is at its strongest in emerson anyway (as compared with dunn shield etc) just check out the length of these threads from year to year :p

so any word from the northern zone guys about coming to the repecharge?

Steevie,
Given that each centre has two teams (men AND women) we end up with 36 teams. Personally I'm not a big fan of the men and women bowling on different weekends or different centres but with Zone finals I think it would be the only way to do it
Graeme

PS I agree with Adam, the banter around Emerson is usually the best and it has quickly become one of the landmark tournaments on the Victorian Calender. Only time will tell if the repecharge is a success but at least organisers are trying to improve things each year and I'm sure that if the repecharge doesn't work it will be dumped and something else tried
