Thats news to me, I could swear that you came home after bowling, or was I to sick to notice you missing:cool:

I would say Craig is probably pretty much on the money. In my opinion only three teams can win - Werribee, Shepparton and Mildura.

I think you will have to be able to shoot above 1100 consistently to win in Werribee. Shepparton and Werribee proved last year that they can do that and Mildura at this years CCup showed that they are also capable.

I would say that Melton, Narre Warren and Bendigo will definitely be in the hunt but I am not sure if they can consistently match the other three.

Form from zone finals doesn't really count for too much. A 187 average at Sale was probably an outstanding effort given the conditions but each team will need to have a couple of bowlers above 210 if they want to win the final. Werribee, Shepparton and Mildura will probably have that but I can’t see that in the other teams. Some of the teams have one bowler that is good enough – Adam Hayes, Merv Billing, Lance Dyer but not two.

In addition to having at least two top bowlers, you also need to have depth because of the “half games” rule. Last year both Werribee and Shepparton won 14/18 pinfalls but Shepparton had better depth with bowlers number 6 and 7.

This is just my humble opinion and obviously I could be proved wrong (and I am sure a heap of you will disagree with these comments). Hopefully Colac will come from nowhere and beat the lot of you!

My tip for All Stars – David Porto, Adam Hayes, Glen Loader, Chris Hamilton and Merv Billing (with Lance Dyer, Dean McKinnon, Ray Martin, Rob Garioch and Andrew Clark making up the top ten)

The quicker November rolls around the better!

Seeing that Craig is not around to amuse us mortals, I thought I might try and give a preview of the Emerson Shiled Final, had a look in the crystal ball, it was a bit foggy but managed to come to grips with what I saw.Remember this is all in fun and hopefully no one gets Grumpie over a bit of fun. Who knows maybe Craig will give his views, "Life according to CHANDLER".
Odds based on Bookies assessment::rolleyes:
Males:
1/10 - Werribee -
Odds on and almost impossible to back anyone against them.
3/1.Shepparton -
Very hard to win back to back, age could be aginst them, however form too good to leave out -
5/1.Narre Warren -
have recruited well in Dyer and will win more games than most teams. Experience may let them down when it counts towards the end. Steevie can only upset so many bowlers in one day -
6/1.Melton -
Dark horse and are always a danger to upset more fancied teams. Several un-knowns in team but I am sure Ray will have them fired up. 6/1
6/1.Colac -
Will jump out of the gates flying, however this event is over the Melbourne Cup Journey and need to have fitness and Youth to come out winners. Will be in the hunt for a long time.
7/1 - Bendigo
These guys are jumping out of their skins to knock over the fav's and have several players who will make it hard for quite a few.Brooks will have them primed for a real tilt at the title.Might surprise a few oldies........
10/1 - Mildura
Might give a few teams a scare but not enough depth at this stage, long trip from home might take the edge away. However will cause a few headaches in the championship rounds on Sunday.
15/1 - Morwell
Comination of Experience and youth will make it hard for them to be consistant, but will knock over 1 0r 2 fav's over the weekend. If the Bosma Brothers can get their act together will give the youth members the confidence they will need to score at Werribee. will be interesting to see their reaction to OIL.
20/1 - Wodonga
Will perform okay on the Saturday, but Sunday will test them, believe it will be first time for several bowlers to venture on to Metro Track.
25/1 - Sale
Sale performed well above expectations on their home ground last weekend, and it great to see some teams make the finals for the first time. However like Morwell will struggle with the amount of oil they will find at Werribee. I would love to see these last 2 teams win but thats a dream that will not come true.

Ladies:
Even Money - Werribee
Nothing like home ground advantage, does not matter what sport you play, home ground just increases your chances. These females are capable of bowling in the State teams and will be hard to beat. Hopefully last years trainer has learned to speak in a much softer voice:rolleyes:
2/1 - Shepparton
Always hard to beat and these ladies are animals(party animals) and seem to be able to handle the long journey every year.Have impressive record and would not take them too easy in any match up.
5/2 - Ed Fleming Lanes
Great effort at Sale under extreme conditions, have recruited 4 youngsters into the side and will be interesting to see how they handle the more experienced teams in the competition. Last year just failed to take it out and this years team will be fit and raring to go when it counts.
3/1 - Geelong
Another team who are always a danger in any comp they enter. However Feel that have not recruited as well as they should have.
5/1 - Mildura
Could be the dark horse of the comp. Not much information about a couple of the bowlers but would be surprised if the Garioch's have not got right when they arrive at Werribee.Local food & drink could be a problem.........
6/1 Bendigo
These ladies always put in a good show and are very good spare shooters, if they have recruited a couple of shot makers will make life very hard for the top teams.
12/1 - Colac
Dont know much about this team, but over the years have always performed well in Country Cup, so see no reason for taking them too lightly.
15/1 - Narre Warren
Seem to have a few injuries in the camp. Again have recruited well in Tanya Steele and hopefully the rest of the team can back her play. The Hong Kong trip should have her and training partner Lance in good form.
20/1 - Ballarat
Just lack a few top liners, butv always give their best. However this years final seems to be one of the best for years and would be foolish to suggest a win,but a placing is not impossible.
25/1 - Mentone
Led for most of the Zone Final at Sale and only lost the lead by 1/2 to EFL in the very last game. Lane conditions suited this team at Sale, however Werribee will be another story altogether. They will still make life hard for several teams and will bond better then most teams.

Look forward to seeing you all at Werribee in November and may the least fancied team knock over the more talented teams as that would make for a great finish on the Sunday afternoon. Remember this is all in FUN.

Craig, Craig, Craig.
Is the Queensland sun getting to you mate?
I can't believe you left Narre out of the top 3

gees i'd be living at pottsville or byron bay if i was to say narre would top 3

narre rely too much on their weaknesses to get them over the line, living proof last year, when you and hoggy were benched and the team shot the house apart

unlike down their i get the sun everyday and i don't have to goto the newsagents to get it

Criag,
think steevie has a point....
have u seen the team this year... what weaknesses????

Kris,
There is a weakness - that's me the manager.
I am planning my sleeps around when we play Werribbee, hopefully I do not need to be awake while we are playing anybody else.

Craig has suggested a nice strategy, maybe we will bench Hogg and Toth more, as this will help us win more games.

Gary, great job & hopefully we can create some history in the years to come.
Should speak with Ray Hodge with regards to Goldpin Web site, as these score should be there for all to see. Again Job well done.:)

Joe,

This is the reason why i have been annoying people like yourself to try to get results. In years to come Emerson will only get bigger and bigger and 5 or even 10 years down the track someone will say - "let's get a website going" and no-one will have records from the early years. As it is, i don't have anything for the first couple of years. (I have had the same problem getting records for Country Cup - i was lucky that one person had kept a heap and let me have a lend - but most people don't keep records)

I have no problem handing over my records to anyone that wants to get a proper site up and running. I am not very good at website design so i just get all the info onto the page, but not much else.

I agree that all of this should go onto some site such as the Goldpin site - just not sure who would do that. Ideally you should be able to into Goldpin site and find records for Emerson etc.

weaknesses are exploited by great players, and when push comes to shove, werribee will prevail, although when push comes to shove, them mildura boys will be a threat, if they decide to push instead of prancing around like ballerina's

Ahh Liz,

The outside shot.

Found 3 board was pretty nice in game 3 after lunch, and the first 2 games after lunch found 5 was working well also.

Not sure after that as did not bowl after the first 3 before & after the break.

Found the inside shot broke down to fast with everyone else playing there.

Craig mate,

good to see you are keeping up with the gossip.

I feel N/W will put on good showing this year.

A few new faces, with bowlers able to put in a number of high games, and consistent at the time. I think it was 7/10 or 8/10 overalls at Sale, not sure on exact numbers.

With the additions to the team this year of R.Gunn & me of course, this should be enough to get the team into 1000+ on a regular basis.

2 solid lefties for Werribee will also be a great treat for us, plus the tried and true shot of Hoggie.

And we all know the team that averages the highest does not always win, all we have to really do is bring everyone down to our level, and that is Steevies job, and he is good at it.

1000+, you's guys have only got to find the extra 100 pins you'll need to win now

so how come you defected anyway lance??? sick of being shown up by krusty:p

everyone should be thinking themselves lucky me and ralph aren't bowling with them other 3 guns

or it would have already been "GAME OVER"

defected, well yes l did. Simple really, only a 10 min drive to N/W for me not the 45 plus to EFL each way, and the 1/4 tank of petrol in that guzzler of mine.

cost effective, really.

With you and Ralph missing, just means it wont be as much fun to beat you guys, or see you lose, the un-losable (if that is a word) at home, in a high scoring house, with the names you have in the team.

I will agree with Joe's odds for Werribee, should be unbackable at home, but you just never know in this funny game called bowling

Come again?

I've heard the lanes aren't as high scoring as they used to be.... I can't confirm or deny this as I haven't touched a ball for a couple of weeks. (health and injury)
Can't wait to get back on the lanes to find out what I've been missing out on!!!

GO W'BEE!

Happy to Say Craig Ryan,

That l have not bowled at Wwerribee since the Marathon, but that was scoring of a good nature, no not as high approx a year before that, but still a centre where high scoring is obtainable if you know how.

Ask Porto, Loader, Heyes, Ralph, and a number of bowlers for that matter, it is a centre that is of a higher scoring nature.

I know l have on many an occasion in tournaments at Werribee scored high for long periods of time - Werribee marathons and the Werribee Cup (now that event needs to be resurected soon - great event - great scoring- what 212 for 8 last year to make top 12)

I just hope that Werribee lay the traditional pattern they have, and allow us all to fight out the tournament on a high scoring event, as it is fun to watch who cracks first during the strike fests of 5 man teams, and the crap they cop when they do.....especially if Steevie is around....cant wait...

I do bowl there Lance, and am bowling Emerson for Werribee.
I know the reputation that it has and it is warrented. Heck I think i'm still at about 216 average or something (not bad for someone untalented like myself!!)
Emerson will be fun, I prefer something tight, to separate the men from the boys, but we will see what gets dished up!
One thing is certain, the team who wins will deserve it.
