OK - now for my 5c worth.
I agree with all those that have said that Chaddy should not hold their marathon to clash with MTC. I wonder if they would have had it on a different date if MTC was at an AMF centre instead of a private one...???
Leo - Joe has had the roll offs at Mooroolbark for people to try out the condition and to also try to win a spot in the MTC. From my recollection, none of the Chaddy boys have actually bowled in these roll offs, they put their names down and then pulled out at the last moment..
There has been ample opportunity for you to try bowling on the tournament condition. You are a great bowler and you could make the cut, as could Bernie and some of the other chaddy guys. Remember there is still one more roll off before the MTC is held so you still have a chance to try it out and perhaps win a spot or some money in the process.
I have not bowled MTC for quite a few years due to the competition, but believe me I will be definitely bowling this year due to there being a ladie's division. I am looking forward to bowling and I encourage every female bowler who tries out for Dunn Shield and Emerson to have a go. MTC has been crying out for a women's division for years, and we need to support it to show that there is a permanent place for the women to bowl in MTC in years to come.
As for the guys, I realise that it is a fair bit of money, but the prize fund is HUGE!! and you could not ask for a better run tournament in Melbourne. The staff at Ed Fleming are polite, professional and know what is going on at all times, which doesn't always happen in the tournaments at AMF centres.
This year should have the biggest field we have had in recent years, and no mini marathon at Chaddy should detract from it.
Note to Chaddy, if you had this on another weekend you would probably get Ralph and I bowling as well, but definitely not on Queen's Birthday weekend.
Jane.
