For the first time in recorded history, you have actually made sense :D

OK - now for my 5c worth.

I agree with all those that have said that Chaddy should not hold their marathon to clash with MTC. I wonder if they would have had it on a different date if MTC was at an AMF centre instead of a private one...???

Leo - Joe has had the roll offs at Mooroolbark for people to try out the condition and to also try to win a spot in the MTC. From my recollection, none of the Chaddy boys have actually bowled in these roll offs, they put their names down and then pulled out at the last moment.. There has been ample opportunity for you to try bowling on the tournament condition. You are a great bowler and you could make the cut, as could Bernie and some of the other chaddy guys. Remember there is still one more roll off before the MTC is held so you still have a chance to try it out and perhaps win a spot or some money in the process.

I have not bowled MTC for quite a few years due to the competition, but believe me I will be definitely bowling this year due to there being a ladie's division. I am looking forward to bowling and I encourage every female bowler who tries out for Dunn Shield and Emerson to have a go. MTC has been crying out for a women's division for years, and we need to support it to show that there is a permanent place for the women to bowl in MTC in years to come.

As for the guys, I realise that it is a fair bit of money, but the prize fund is HUGE!! and you could not ask for a better run tournament in Melbourne. The staff at Ed Fleming are polite, professional and know what is going on at all times, which doesn't always happen in the tournaments at AMF centres.

This year should have the biggest field we have had in recent years, and no mini marathon at Chaddy should detract from it.

Note to Chaddy, if you had this on another weekend you would probably get Ralph and I bowling as well, but definitely not on Queen's Birthday weekend.

Jane.

Piss Weak huh! Thanx very much FRIEND?

In Barry's and my defence we love our bowling and if we could afford to bowl in evey tournament on the calendar we would but then again waitressing doesnt earn me a royal wage.....it seems apparent to me that those with something to say about it are those that are fortunate to be sponsored in these events.....we appreciate the fact that you think we are good enough to bowl in the Melbourne cup but it has nothing to do with our ability to bowl it's what we can and cant afford to do....we dont bowl to live....... we live to bowl.....

Cheers Mary

I really understand the point of what everyone is getting at:

But lets face it - to bowl MTC it is very expensive. If i could afford to bowl i would, but at the end of the DAY - BOWLING DOESNT AND WILL NEVER PAY THE BILL'S:

So i really do believe that if bowlers are unable to afford MTC and can bowl at another venue for a CHEAPER why carnt THEY??????

I really think that a few of you out there should really take stock of yourselves and give bowlers a break, if they want to bowl the MARATHON and NOT MTC WHY CAN'T THEY???????????????.

I and others really try and support everything that we can... But at the end of the day IT IS WHAT WE CAN AFFORD....

SOME OF US AREN'T AS LUCKY AS SOME OF YOU THAT ARE SPONSORED and WE WOULD NEVER TAKE THAT AWAY FROM YOU...

So how about you get off your high horse and give the rest of us a break..

I couldnt see that being an issue, but why can't AMF run it the week before or after? Perhaps if it was ran the week before, and the bowlers of the calibre like Leo, Dodds and yourself happened to win some cash, therefore giving the funds to bowl MTC?

There is no possible gain for ANYONE on running this tournament the same weekend as MTC....

There are bowlers who cannot compete with the elite group of bowlers we have so why not let them bowl in a mini tournament.
My say...
Leo

I am not having a go at the bowlers in anyway that feel they are not upto the level to outlay $325 for this event, as after all it is a huge sum of money, and am happy to say that l am really looking at my own finances, as l am not one of the lucky people to be sponsored, unless my credit card counts as a sponsor:rolleyes:

I would like to think though that the bowlers that aspire to be able to compete in the major events in the coming years, or would just like to improve thier games, would think about turning up to EFL to watch some of the great names, to see what little things they do well, that gives them that extra bit of scoring ability each & every game. To watch how some of these people get themselves out of what looks like being a low scoring game can be great to see, and show what it is possible. The little 1% are the big things, and to see these big names not miss the single pins, the 3 & 4 pin combos, and not very often leave splits, and the consistency the hit the mark over and over again.

I am disappointed that Chaddy is running an event to clash with the MTC, and would have hoped that the centres in Victoria would really have started think about the numbers they want to events, as afterall, a numebr of bowlers that may have bowled in both events will now only bowl in 1 of them, thus reducing numbers at both events. A no win situation for both events.

Gary, I understand where everyone is coming from..... Yes I have looked at the bigger picture as well.... But let it be said that NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD $325.00 to bowl...

It is all about MONEY, no matter what we do in LIFE..... MONEY PLAYS A BIG PART.....

This is not an attack on anyone... But people should really think before they open their mouths...

That is my final 5 cents worth...

P.S - Gary i hope you do make the cut and get your money back.......

it has nothing to do whether people can or cannot afford to bowl in the melbourne cup it is about why has amf decided once again to put an event on the same weekend as an independant centre's tournement?that is what we are all having a go at stop taking it personal!
cheers bowl your marathon
maybe you might want to bowl the one that will be on when the spc is on as well??????????????????

it looks simple to me that the people who are bowling in this tourny were never going to bowl melb cup anyway cause it's too expensive for them.

so all let it be.

I actually find this argument slightly ammusing. If you are going to bowl in the Melbourne Cup then bowl in it. If not you have an alternative in the Marathon at Chaddy. Its up to the individual what you can and cannot afford.

But i will be at Mooroolbark watching the best bowlers in Australia both ladies and gents and trying to learn something. Not that it ever helps .

Phil

OK, as with Lisa, this is my final 5cents as well...

I would not care to talk too much about why Chaddy is holding this tournament... That is their desicion... The discussion is whether you bowl Chaddy or MTC...

The point is, as Alan said boldly, not everyone can afford to fork out $325 to bowl with Australia's Best. CORRECT??

I respect the fact that MTC is on but it does not mean I have to bowl in it... And so do the other bowlers who have decided to play at Chaddy. Mary and Mark, I know you guys too well and the passion you have in bowling, so please consider placing your names back.

I think this thread has gone a bit astray and fellow bowlers seem to be taking it personal so lets just bygones be bygones...

PS - Jane, for the record, none of the Chaddy boys have put their names forward for this years qualifying so we could not have dropped out... And thank you for the compliment for my bowling but MONEY talks...

Leo

I was never going to bowl the Melbourne Cup , i'm not going to throw away over $300 on a tourney that i have no hope in , the last thing i would go and do is watch others bowl when i can go elsewhere and have a roll . If i had a 200+ ave i wouldnt think twice but i dont and now that Chadstone have a event there for the rest of us im going there.
I work damn hard for my money and i will spend it like everyone esle , how i want . Im sure the Chadstone event wasnt aimed at taking bowlers away from MTC , so make your choice and dont have a crack at those who dont want to donate to the MTC prize fund.
I love to bowl but some of the people in the sport make me sick.

Christian

Jess,
Please don't take it personally. They are not having a go at you at all..it's AMF. We all know you are just doing your job. Let's hope common sense makes some sense on this issue and the future planning of tournaments in Victoria !!
Cheers
Alex :D

As I read thru this thread the cost seems to be an issue ! Chadstone $10.00 a game.....MTC $20.00 a game ...the choice is yours !!! I also see that some people taking a dim veiw that the No Tap is an open format....Is the dim veiw there because it may take bowlers away ,thus affecting the PRIZE FUND ........Remember this !The so called bunny's that contribute to the comp. They May go to this other comp instead & god knows I am one of them.....Just for the record I am bowling MTC....mick

There are at my count 82 tournaments listed on the Victorian tournament calendar on the TBA website (Not including events listed that are held overseas).
Last time i checked there were 52 weeks in the year.
This works out to 1.57 events per week and that doesn't include any events that don't appear on the TBA's tournament calendar, like the ANZAC Day Marathon for instance.

What this means for centres looking to run tournaments is that they have to schedule their event on a weekend where there is already a tournament.
The bottom line is that CLASHES ARE UNAVOIDABLE.
Working proudly for AMF and being a bowler with an interest in tournaments i have tried in the past along with other staff to organise tournaments that benefit bowlers from both the centre i work at (Northcote for those unaware) and bowlers from other centres as well.
Sometimes these events clash with those already on the tournament calendar but wherever possible we try and avoid a clash. Forcing tournament bowlers to choose events only divides loyalties and ends up making tournaments in general less successful than they otherwise would be.

In this particular instance with Chadstone organising an event on the same weekend as the MTC i'm sure it wasn't their intention to target the bowlers who are going to participate in the Melbourne Cup but to simply offer everyone else an opportunity to bowl in a fun event on that particular weekend.
If people want to bowl Melbourne Cup then bowl that and if you can't afford to then look at Chadstone's marathon as an alternative if you feel like bowling on that weekend.

As tournament bowlers we should feel privileged to have so much choice in the events we can bowl and criticising centres for providing that choice will only convince some of them that targeting tournament bowlers for their events is a waste of time.
As far as my plans for that weekend are concerned i will most likely not be bowling in anything and will probably go and watch the Melbourne Cup to try and learn something.
I'm sure i'll get flamed for this but thats the price you pay on here for sharing an opinion.
Regards
Brendan Hanton
