Emerson Shield - 2007

With our resident bookie back from an extended "holiday" in Qld, it must be about time for this years odds. Who will make it through the zones 1-2 and qualify for the final?
I also have a suggestion
I reckon we dump the repechage and have
top 3 (out of 6 teams) from the North
top 3 (out of 6 teams) from the East and
top 4 (out of 7 teams) from the West (extra team this year - Nth Geelong)
Still have ten in final, reduce cost by not having repechage, strongest zone gets 4 teams into final. (Past two women's winners from Western zone, and three of the last 4 mens winners from Western zone)
I know this can't happen at this late stage, but i am starting the suggestion for next year. I guess it will depend on how popular the repechage turns out to be - if we have 10 -12 teams then it will stay but if we only get 5 or 6 teams then alternatives might need to be looked at. A lot of people have told me that if they don't qualify straight out then they won't be going to repechage (it might be different when push comes to shove they may change their minds)
PS - Thread has been way too quiet so i figured it was time we start to fire things up a bit.

Good suggestion Gary, This keeps costs down and you still get the strongest teams into the Final. Interesting to see how the repecharge goes...

(though i am guessing that if you are bowling Jason, then one of the above list of men is not - or are you bowling for Morwell.)
no teams posted for Morwell or Rosbeud

That's right Gary I am bowling for Sale in place of Earl Smith. So a 180+ bowler to a 160. Bloody hell what have I gotten myself into? :p

Yes the change to Sale (sorry have been interstate and haven't had a chance to put through the change here)

Earl Smith - out due to injury

Jason King - in

1st Reserve - Alex Zee
2nd Reserve - Geoff Morris

Actually Jason, Gunther is the highest average male at Sale at 177. So this means that Earl's average is a lot lower. So your 160 is not that low. :)

As for not much tourny experience, well I recond you can intimidate a lot of guys there. ;)

You have gotten yourself into a great teams tournament. You will be able to improve your game by competing against other bowlers. Good luck and try to enjoy yourself.

You forgot Epping
Why weren't you @ the seniors yesterday?:)
Merv sent me your regards;)
Haha bloody ha :D

I wasn't at seniors yesterday because i am NOT OLD ENOUGH -- not as old as you (I might be just about as grey - but still not as old!)

As for Epping - i did not include them because i did not know they were in the zone - the more the merrier i reckon.

I wondered what happened to the Zee's after Bairnsdale closed down.

It's good to see that they are still in the game :)

The new format makes it very interesting..
Definately have to be on game at Zones.
And even better at finals..

hmm yes very interesting..

A couple of our main team members have had to drop back to reserves list for the zone final due to other commitments. Being a new centre, alot of our bowlers are taking part for the first time and are really looking forward to the fun that is Emerson Shield.
See everyone on Saturday.

Interesting scenario for Saturday - Sale a no show.
We thought the rain last week was bad. Well it is much much worse this week and they are predicting 3 days of this. At this stage I made it to Sale but I won't be surprised if I can't get home.
The road to Bairnsdale is cut presently with a big tree across the highway. What the water isn't washing away the wind will take away.
First ravage by bush fire now flooding - not good for local economy.
:waterskiing:

A BIG APOLOGY TO ALL WHO MISREAD MY PREVIOUS POST. I DID NOT IMPLY THAT SALE WAS NOT TURNING UP BUT THAT IF THIS WEATHER CONTINUES AND THE ROADS ARE CUT THAT HALF OUR TEAM WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET THROUGH.

Now as to why Dandenong bowlers are concerned about this is beyond my comprehension though

Once again I apologise and all you dozens of people can just put the telephone down now.

With the demise of Ed Fleming lanes on July 15th - how does this affect the Emerson team? - esp if they qualify for the final in November. (I hope they will still bowl)

According to my lane draw it's 8 &^((% L O N G ones.......
;)
Liz
I don't have a lane draw.
The zone final is between - Narre Warren, Morwell, Sale, Ed Fleming Lanes, Rosebud, Mentone & Epping + Blind = 8
We play everyone once = 7
Did I miss someone?

Oooooh blind! We are a chance at winning a point ;)

I think the match of the round will be Stevie T V Mr.181 Demather.......... Blood and tears will be shed :D

No not really Steve. There is a positional round at the end.
