Emerson Shield - 2007

dont complain about us playing the bye in the last round mate

saves someone from being thumped twice this way

How is it a positional round when you are playing someone that is irrelevent? The only match in that round that is worthwhile is 3v4. To me anyways.
I am not a fan of postitional rounds either, but this is definitely the fairest way to go. If there was no positional round the ladies would only be playing 5 games - which would mean a minimum of 2 games per bowler -- long way to travel for just two games. By adding the positional round that means 6 games with a minimum of 3 per bowler -- better, though only slightly better.

Once the positional round is added then you can do it two ways 1v2 3v4 5v6 or 1v6, 2v5, 3v4. The first way would mean the team that is fifth plays the bye whilst 3 plays 4. In theory the bye is easier to beat and therefore it is advantage to be last. Therefore 1v6 etc is the fairer way to go. As Carmers suggests the positional round will probably be irrelevant from a placings point of view but it does add the extra game to proceedings.

Another option would be to have two full rounds -- ie 10 games --- makes it a long day when you are only trying to eliminate one team.

I guess a third option would be to run the Women's division the same as the men-- ie 7 games. Unfortunately this means you would have to have three byes which means 3/7 games you would not have an opponent. The only advantage i can see with that system is at least both repechages would be the same.

.....

My tips for Men's repechage
1. Werribee
2. Bowlarama
3. Epping
4. Melton (if Haysey plays -- fifth if he doesn't))
----
5. Bendigo
6. Geelong
7. Ed Fleming (how can they practise without lanes?)

If you want a real list of men's odds there is only one person qualified to do that .... over to you craig

ODDS FOR THE REPOCHARGE

WERRIBEE 1/10 should be in the red with the superstars in the team, after copping an ego bashing at warrnambool, i think they might respect their opponents a little more next sunday

BOWLARAMA EVENS will breeze into the main game, team slightly re structured from the narrow defeat at warrnambool can only improve

MELTON 3/1 too much depth too miss, if haysey doesn't bowl, i'll buy a collingwood membership, the big fella will be there and i'll be all over him like a rash

EPPING 5/1 between these guys and geelong, i had to flip a coin, if i have a worry about epping, it's their depth, but their top end players out rank geelong which could stitch up an extra overall point

GEELONG 5/1 have the kiddies learned from their outing at warrnambool? this is an occasion where respect can either be gained or lost and your judged by what you do, not by what you say you can do

ED FLEMMING 10/1 will tothies ire of moving from a successfull team, to a failing team, be enough to work the man up, to talk his team into the main game, i believe not, but i am looking forward to some entertaining banter during our match

BENDIGO 25/1 now that dave has swung the axe at mildura, i personally believe that his team mates will not be able to perform due to the pressure of knowing, that their heads could be on the chopping block next

well after bowling 60 games of league at bowlarama, i was told today i am ineligible to represent my bowling centre

i stand and applaud once again the people who run our sport

3 cheers for goldpin

3 cheers for the VCTBA for not allowing me to bowl country championships ( been a country resident of victoria for 24 years and a living one for 30)

3 cheers for the TBAV for not allowing me to bowl rachuig ( been a bowling resident of victoria for 24 years too and a living one for 30)

and last of all 3 cheers to the TBA who continues to endorse these people by sanctioning them

yeah i know, you got rules, maybe you want to now have a look at them and see what they achieve

rule 1 foster and promote (ERROR)

and you wonder why we cant get near the olympics

I smell a we hate Craig conspiracy book in the making. Thats unfortunate that you are not allowed to bowl having 60 games in league to me seems to be more than ample. Cheers Ralph. P.S. What was the qualifying criteria?

i had not bowled enough games prior to trials, i accept hodgeys decision

am dirty on the fact of how the whole thing transpired again and how the whole thing is structured again

Ralph: Criteria was as follows -

In addition to having competed in a team selection trial, a bowler, to be eligible to represent their centre, must meet the following qualifications:

*All bowlers will be required to present their 2007 TBA Registered Player Card, or receipt of payment, at check-in.
Only 2007 TBA Registered Player Cardholders will be permitted to bowl. Cards will be available for purchase at check-in.

*Be currently competing in a league in the Centre they are representing during all stages of the tournament.

*Have bowled a minimum of 18 games of league in the centre they are qualifying for as at the completion of centre qualifying.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I understand why the rule is there, to stop centres bringing in hired guns for an event instead of rewarding long term bowlers. I do however think that it might be more prudent to have a rule requiring a certain number of league games at ZONE roll-offs or a cut off date such as 1st July instead. A number of leagues run into April before finishing, meaning that if I wanted to move centres to join the new season of XXXXX league at YYYYY centre in May I wouldn't be eligable to bowl for them as I'd only have maybe 12 or 15 games at centre roll-off. If the cut off had been, say 24 games by 1st July then I'd have been fine.

according to phone call i have just had Bowl a rama ladies have pulled out which means there will be no ladies repecharge final on sunday. Going straight thru to final will be Narre, Mentone, Melton and Warrnambool. Such a shame as i was looking forward to bowling on sunday but best of luck to the men trying to get through and we'll see you in Geelong in November

Men as well (B-rama) are out , so the mens repechage will probably be 5 rounds and a positional (what the ladies was going to be)

thats a bit rough pulling out now at the last minute!!! as i'm assumin nearly most teams would have had this weekend planned, as in accomadation booked (for those who required it, such as warrnambool), travel plans plus other things!!!

Perhaps cases like these need to be looked at under the "tournament promoters have final say" and the guys that run it take leniency in circumstances like these....

We were lucky enough to just have enough people eligable due to the short period of time we have been open, and if 1 or 2 people had have fallen ill or injured, the entire repocharge would have not been worth running.

What's more important? I'd say the event running to its full potential... There isn't any "big guns" being hired, and if that were to happen, I'd hope they would ring in someone with a little more awesomeness than Craig :p
