Sydpies

Well done to the winners and great bowling by Chucky who has copped a lot of flack for his comments from everyone including his team mates.

funny you mention that joe, i still cant find a team mate that has them feelings about me or thinks that anything i did on the weekend did reflect badly on our teams result or its respect by competitors.

on that note i apologise to the many people who complained to me about the foul and poor sporting comments made by one of womens teams supporters

their views are definately not shared by the majority of our players, well done to everyone out their who played the game hard and played it with such spirit, that was the best teams event i have ever bowled

xpense

As a rumour is also floating around of more teams in the finals, maybe it might be worthwhile looking at multilple weekends for the finals.

i hope not, too many teams make the finals weaker, 10 is a good size and 12 makes it a very long weekend

xpense

Hold each round in a different centre. Consecutive weekends perhaps.

i am beginning to like this idea less, i know theres no overall champions, but its good to have the girls around, gees who else is gonna take my money hey (mrs garioch)

I thought that the format of the tourny was great this year, maybe getting close to not fixing something that aint broke?

Length is most probably on border line - but you do have the requirement to rotate players - brings more responsibility on the manager as to player management

For comparison CCup has a 12 team draw where you play everyone once

There are only two centres that have the ability to have both male and females bowling at the same time ie Geelong and Latrobe Valley where you bowl 8,8 & 6 games over 3 days at every other centre you bowl alternatively in 4 game blocks

Day 1 & 2
ie men block 1 8am-12pm
ladies block 2 12pm to 4pm
lane maintenance 1 hour

men block 3 5pm-9pm
ladies block 4 9pm to 1am

Day 3

block 1 8-11
block 2 11-2
lane maintenance
block 3 3-5
block 4 5-8

Generally allow 1 hour per 5 team match.

I dont think that you would want the Emerson final any bigger than 10 teams and because every team member has to bowl a minimum number of games it does give you the opportunity to rest all bowlers at some stage - whether you do this or not is entirely up to you.

Fully agree guys, want it to stay the same for next year. was a grat event this year, and cant wait for enxt year.

I really hope they dont make any changes, and keep it at top 10 for the final. Allow defending champs through to the finals, just like this year. Only thing l could off would be to add 1 more game, a positonal round to finsh - who knows Werribee may have gotten up then

The only thing l would like to see changed from this year, relates to zone finals. Have all 3 zones on the same weekend, please. No need to have them all on different weekends.

Even though the day was very long on Saturday, it was still fun, and showed a true test of character to the teams that performed well on Sunday morning.

Overall this was a fantastic event this year, and really enjoyed myself, despite bowling poorly by my standards, and unable to win games either, except for a couple of the 2 days. Had a great time, adn next year, hope to return with a stronger team, determined to perform, and enjoy themselves regardless of the outcomes. As after all, the teams who had fun, were the ones who performed a bit more consisten than we did, as we were worried about what we were doing to much this year.

Hodgey being a) president of goldpin victoria, b) my boss and c) a bloke who listens may be swayed. He personally thinks it was too long...tho I'm with you guys. Even tho its a commitee decision, he would have plenty of influence. All we need to do is make plenty of noise.

positional round

are you suggesting it would have been fun to do that 2 games in a row???

hahahahaha

I also think the tournament was great as is. I would not like it to be any longer as 12 hours practically non-stop is pretty full on. The problem with going shorter is you would have to go to 8 teams which is only 14 games - too short. If you go to any more teams, you limit the number of centres that can host final. I am very much against having men and women in separate centres even though we are not playing for a combined total. Bowling is very much a family thing - many teams have husband / wife or father / daughters etc representing same centres. eg Gariochs, Farkys, Neffs (Thompson), Baggs & Woza's just to name a few. Separate Men and Women and you can't watch how the others siblings are going - plus extra accomodation / travel issues.
I personally think CCup was better when it was 10 teams as now you are bowling as late 1-2 am in some centres and some of the social side has been lost. Only got to look at all the fun that people had at the hub mixing together on the Friday and Saturday nights.

i still think the slowness in between games was the major problem, i doubt we will have that problem again

They have gotten it right this year 3 competitive zones and and a brillant final weekend - anymore teams and you would have to make it 3 days which would add to the cost.
I would rather bowl all day long than start at 10 and finish by 3 for two days like we did for our zone final

Yes the men & women must be in the same centre, at the same time, as this adds to the atmosphere of the event.

It was only so long because of the time between lane changes. After all make lane change, wait for all other lanes to finsh, then practice, then put your line ups in, then bowl.

Wait for lane 20 to be fixed for 30 mins on Sunday....

In previous years, yes we have had only 8 teams in the final, but the day ran smoother, and the overall day went faster.

Have to agree, that the time between each game was a bit to much.

Lets keep it the same for next year. No changes to state final, except earlier idea of posiitonal round.

Craig, l would love to haev seen that final game once again. As after all it was fantastic to see 1 & 2 fighting it out in the last game for the win of tournament, and that should be the case every year.

Looking down the list a couple of places could still have been changed if a positional round was held, including our 3rd.

Adam, you will just to keep in Rays ear mate, as the meetings come around.

Scenario - After 18 games
Team 1 - 80.5 pts
Team 2 - 80.0 pts
Team 3 - 79.5 pts
Team 4 - 61.5 pts

Positional round 1v2 and 3v4 etc
Team 1 and 2 play out a close 4-3 game (team 2 wins) while team three dominates over the weaker team 4 (after all they did finish 18 pts behind them..) and wins 6-1 or 7-0. Team 3 gets up and wins even though after playing every one twice team 1 were in the lead..... i personally am not a fan of positional matches. Great for spectators but 18 games should be enough to decide the winner.

Regarding yesterday queries, i have attached a spreadsheet of all men's games. Can you please fill in any gaps that you have info for (whether that be games bowled or total points won).
e-mail to gatsby@iprimus.com.au
Thank you :)

I have a query regarding an incident on the weekend at Emerson that I would be interested to get other people's opinion about.
At the commencement of game 9 on Saturday the guy behind the counter announced that everything was ready and the bowler on the even number lane should bowl. Our lead bowler got up and bowled a strike. The announcer then said “oooops scoring was not switched on and we should start again”. I asked the opponents if they were happy for the strike to stand and they were. Their captain went and asked for a score change but got refused saying the ball was dead.
I then argued the point (with the announcer) that he had said we were right to go and the score should stand. He said he had made a mistake when he announced things were ready, and our bowler should have noticed that the scoring wasn't ready. I argued that we are not familiar with all the bells and whistles of their scoring system and relied on the announcement. I also told him that at least one other lane had accepted their score and changed it themselves. He wanted to know who, but I said it was not on my lanes so I was not interested (plus that was a sure way of getting a future opponent fired up)
Though I disagreed with his decision, before it got too heated I backed down and our lead bowler then bowled an 8 miss followed next frame by a 5 before he calmed back down (although that game ended up his lowest for the day).
This is not a criticism of the official as he did what he believed was correct (and he may well have been correct?) he also admitted he made a mistake with the announcement – I would just like to know what others think.

Gatsby,

Should we do the right thing and do the Ladies scores to:rolleyes:

Would that not be pollitically correct:p

I remember some tosser went x x 9/ then said he would strike out and did for a 279

Are we talking the same tournament Craig ;)

Also remember that the ladies top 2 teams also met in the last round at Mentone in Bendigo and Geelong.

I personally dont agree with positional rounds if you play everyone once or twice then you are on a level playing field.
