It has happened more often than you think. Greg Smith bowled a a low game in the last round of 2004. - Cost him All-Stars but he won a mens and overall medallion. At that stage we could not lose the overall but still could have lost the mens - Best team was in - Allstar chances not even up for discussion.Gatsby said:I wonder how many times bowlers had pulled out with one or two games to go to look after their average? (I am sure it is not very often, but i bet it has happened).
I know of people who dont have a chance of winning their division or overall and have sat out to be in All-Stars.
8 Country Cups - 2 mens medallions, 1 overall - No allstars - I always go away to win not go away to make allstars. Allstars would be a nice reward for a good weekends bowling though.Gatsby said:Look forward to hearing other peoples comments as I am sure not everyone will agree. A question i would ask is -- what would you prefer -- a winning medal -- or an allstars medal.
PS - This is not a push to scrap allstars teams, just an argument that maybe they are an added extra - like winning the high tournament game prize and should not be treated as the be all and end all.
I cant answer that question as I have never been an allstar but someone like Lisa who is in the allstars neraly every year can maybe best answer that question as to whether she would trade them all in to have won the womens division last year - Hope Im not putting to much pressure on you Lisa
I know Webby was pretty emotional after winning his first mens medallion in 2004 after how 12+ years
If you have a look at Walter De Veer results and they have two player rankings - 1 is based on average and the other is based on points won
In the end if you are going away to win an allstars spot then to me you are bowling in the wrong tournament.
