Counrty Cup 2005

Country Cup 2005

Craig, the only reason it comes out of anger for you, is the fact that you can't bowl the best, and friendliest, yet competitive tournament on the calendar.

Hey Country Girl

Was Echuca Or Horsham Given The Opportunity To Participate In Country Cup ??

Hey bowlrig will you put us out of our misery are you bowling CCup at Geelong 2005......Yes or No ??

An opportunity may have come up for Echuca or Horsham but it certainly has not come up for Werribee, Melton or any other metropolitan teams. You are not Country Centres.

And who decides?

And who decides that a bye is better than a pacer?, despite the lineage differential, despite the fact that people bowl better against other people? Despite the fact that the pacer is there only for the love of the game, not for any personal gain whatsoever...

Trouble is, some in the bowling community are so set in their ways, they arent prepared to change, or help out, or see the benefits of certain situations....Sometimes it pays to look outside the circle occaisionally.

Country Cup 2005

Hello, we have two teams having a bye at the same time. The men's and ladies team from each association will have the bye together - therefore, we can put these two teams on one pair of lanes and pace themselves against each other.

So does that happen every year? I dont know the ins and outs of country cup, just thought Werribee's idea was a good one. I see plenty of merit in it and no negatives. Also could we have your name country girl? Unless of course you prefer the anonimity...just think its more polite if you know who you are talking to.

Anyway I'm not bowling in country cup, gl to all who are...have a great weekend. And maybe you are right about wanting to bowl in the friendliest and best atmosphere tourney around...but I wouldnt know un fortunately.

firstly for the record, i am unavailable to bowl for werribee or geelong on that weekend, i have work commitments

so that dispells the jealous angle your heading at

now, see if you can work out the agenda now

or could it be as simple as there are too many restrictions governing participation this sport

what is the exact distance for classification of being in either metro or country

echuca to participate in country cup? would be nice... another team for you guys to beat... but somehow i dont see it happening for a very long time...

Craig

I believe (but who believes me) that the distance is 70kms

In this case the only centre who I believe borders on this limit is Rosebud.

In any stage I feel that this has gotten out of hand. Edi's original post was he felt disappointed that he had not as yet been officially informed of his proposal.

Yes there is a bye in Country Cup. I personally would rather Iowl against a pacer team than a bye. Obviously Edi was fully aware of the situation and put in a proposal for Werribee to be a pacer team (I gather for both the mens and the ladies) which is great to see that he was prepared to send away a team for no glory other than the love of bowling. I gather that this would have been discussed at the next country meeting and a decision would have been made. Edi's gripe is that he has not officialy been informed of his proposal.

Dont get me wrong I do not sit on the country board nor am I a committee member.

I hear what both Dozza and rychenroller are saying and full credit to Edi and Werribee for putting in a submission in the first place. At this meeting a decision would have been made (whether you guys feel that it is the right one or not) and it should be end of story. (Which I know that it wont). It is better to put in a submission and know for sure rather than not put one in and assume.

70 k's is that to the bowling centre
where is the mesurement taken from
Geelong must be close to being inside that
do you need to bowl a minimum number of games in
the centre

Thanks for the tip Rob

That could have been major embarrassment if I havent already but then again it wouldnt be the first time

PS I hear that you have been practising theTiddlywinks. Thinking of making a comeback.

Not sure where the 70km measurment is taken from or whether this figure is accurate.
To qualify for the team each association has different requirements. Some have trials alone, Some have trials and you must meet other requirements (bowl in certain tournaments, championships etc), Others just have nominations and selection panels.

From what I understand one of the requirements to be eligible for that centre is that you have to pay your TBA portion of your registration at that centre. Ie if you paid your full registration (Association fees and TBA portion) in a Melbourne Centre and then bowled at Latrobe Valley where you can also join their association but you only pay the association fees (not the TBA portion again as you only pay this once.) In this case you are not eligible to represent Latrobe Valley at CCup. Confused because I think that I am.
If you were to do it the other way around and pay your Association fees and TBA portion at Latrobe Valley and then join your melbourne centre only paying your association fees then you meet this criteria but I dont think that this is the only criteria for eligibility into CCup. I am not sure if where you reside comes into the equation. I think that it used to in the past. I know that Latrobe Valley has a rule that to be eligible for nominations, trials and etc you must bowl and continue to bowl in a league at that Centre (or registered through that Association)

I'll ask some questions and see what I can find out. Unless anybody out there knows the answers and can verify what I have said

Thanks woza i was just interested

p.s i missed that thing with edi maybe she did too

Woza

We had the problem of where a person can qualify to play Country Cup this year therefore we checked out the rules. The guy in question lived between Ballarat and Bendigo.

You are right in what you say. There use to be a distance, but that has now changed to where he pays his registration first - ie TBA registration - and then that person MUST continue to regularly play in a league in that facility.

This has probably gotten a little out of control. We wanted to be a pacer this year only- because we knew that Horsham would fill in next year. Dunn Shield has an even amount of teams from what I hear. I don't even need to wish those bowling in CC a great time, because from all accounts it is basically a done deal. Good luck to all teams.

Other than people giving their opinions - which we all have a right to do - nothing can be solved on here. The decision was made and we abide by it.. it would have been nice to be informed officially (still haven't).

Numerous Werribee bowlers (David Porto, Ann Bonning and Lisa Notman come to mind) would have liked to try out at other centres and be part of this great tournament, however we have been told (every time) that we live within the prohibited zone so cannot do so.

Country Girl- No one ever said an opportunity arose. We just applied to fill a bye. But don't get all thingy about it. We won't be there. You have made it quite clear the welcome mat has been put away. I wish you'd told me there was a bye at Senior Shield- I would have tried to assist there too. I haven't got a lot of seniors, but I would have tried my best. Please don't turn this into a personal attack against any Association. If some one hadn't mentioned Werribee being turned down it wouldn't even have been an issue. In reality only myself, some of my staff and the committee should have known about the submission.

However.... the MTBA welcome all bowlers -country, city, even some who are totally off the planet! into the ECCC. That too is a great tournament, but perhaps they should relook at their rules so that the country bowlers......... don't even want to go there! LOL (totally in jest)

Never mind.

Edi
(yes, I am a "she")

Thanks Edi

Dont worry not all country bowlers are threatened or as naive as country girl.
Like I said earlier It is better to put in a submission and know for sure rather than not put one in and assume.

Woza, the exclusion zone is 60km's of the Melbourne area,

Edi, it would have been good to bowl against a pace team, the thought of bowling against our own womens team and getting beaten does not sound good.

Also it will be at least 2 or 3 years before Horsham qualify for Country Cup, they must bowl in Country Championships for 2 years before they can apply for Country Cup.
