Changes to Nationally ranked Tournaments

At least 2 youth tournaments (3 if you count national youth) have been run over long and short patterns, with only a handful of bowlers averaging the card or above.............

Thats 2 out of 8. Not including national youth teams challenge which isnt a ranked event. The rest have been very high scoring. Melbourne youth for example, after the first sqaud, last place was 10 under the card, and everyone else was over.

Guys we are still forgetting that TBA only have done this because of the survey results! Not because they are trying to take over and run everything!

Again it's what the BOWLERS that have filled out the survey want.

Like I said if you think it was such a bad idea and you didn't want this to happen. You should of filled out the survey and had your say!

I have been bowling for 11 years now I also have bowled in 9 ranked events this year, plus more that aren't ranked. Tournaments aren't meant to be about who has the best carry, but who can play the lanes and can adjust.

maybe we just bowl, this conditon stuff is wrecking my brain(and ive got 20 odd balls for 'speciality' reactions under the bed!!)

And if you have 20 balls and still can't find a shot on a challenging lane conditions, then maybe your the one that has to start practicing and spend a "couple of hours throwing urethane or striking from every dot on the approach"

Gosh us youth bowlers only take about 4-6 balls.

Adrian I think you should know some of us youth bowlers before you start bagging our bowling abilities!

national youth - High scoring set by the tech
Aspley - low scoring international standard
werribee youth - low scoring tricked up novelty pattern set by the tech
perth youth - low scoring dual pattern international standard
sydney youth - medium scoring. Was written to be tough. Topography of centre and quality of bowlers took it from low to medium.
c300 youth - low scoring dual pattern, international standard
Sa under 23 classic - low scoring international pattern
Melbourne - medium-high scoring international pattern Topograpy of centre took it from medium scoring to medium-high.

Out of 8 tournaments so far, 2 have been above a medium scoring pace. 5 have been international patterns, and there has been 2 with dual conditions. There has been distance of pattern ranging from 46ft to 35ft.

Man some of these kids show some determination to improve with these huge variety of conditions thrown at them.

The idea for different patterns is to challenge the bowlers in the 'sport' of tenpin. Do not gauge the success of a tournament as how many cut above, or the number of conditions put down.

Sydney Youth - had most of the current elite ranked bowlers attending AND another 50 who came to enjoy the sport, bowl with their peers, compete against the best, and socialise.

Yes the survey showed what ranked bowlers are looking for in tournaments, but you are just one aspect of the sport - remember when you attended championships, nationals, shield etc and what kept you coming back for more?

The people walking away with $ at the end of a tournament are the bowlers - as well as improved skill, experience and friendships.

I applaud the sport taking back control and setting goals - just be nice for more promoters and committees with all the experience to be included. Afterall volunteers make up 95% of the sport, including the current TBA Board.

Tonx Sa was kind of high scoring, I averaged 218 and you were higher then me!

Sydney was high scoring and so was melbourne

Now im starting see to whats going on, i now know many patterns there are. The names of the people who decide these things would be nice to know too. The TBA just needed to put that information there and i probably wouldnt have blown my top

Still 2 questions left

I know the scoring pace for all these youth patterns(thanks Tonx) but was the condition fair?

And why should i have to fill out a piece of paper to get ranking points, shouldnt it just 'happen?'

Most of those 20 balls are in the 'im sick of them' pile too, theres only ever 6 on me where ever i go. And i didnt go anywhere near the survey because there wasnt really a way to say 'Innisfail Open should be ranked' which was a real sore point from my point of view this yr

Lexi, you can't look at the top 5 when you look at the scores. Look at the cut to have a better indication on how the pattern played on the day. Give yourself some credit. 218 isn't considered "high" for someone of your standard. Going back in past years, some tournaments have had a winners pace of over 240. Cuts have been 220-230 in past years. That to me is excessively high scoring. Winner averaging 220 and the rest progressively down to me is a perfect scoring pace.

Adrian - Fair? I don't think I can really make an unbiased opinion on that, as I have had alot of success this year accross the range of patterns. We have had a wide range of styles make cuts all year.

The better bowlers have consistently come out on top. I think they have been fair, but I don't know if my eyes are seeing what is happening correctly. While i'd like to think that my opinion is unbiased, I will also refuse to follow recent trend and have my opinion validated by my position on the rankings. Something about "I'm ranked higher than you so your opinion doesn't matter" just doesn't sit well with me.

Aspley - low scoring international standard

Are you kidding me? That was their house pattern.

Adrian, you knew Innisfail Open wasnt ranked, plus it wouldnt help you anyway because your not registered. You only have yourself to blame. TBA arent your parents and do everything for you, so how about you do what everyone else has to do and fill out the form. I mean if George can do it, im sure you can to, or are you even above him?

I always saw the card as where good bowlers should be, these days you need a telephone number over it to be in contention. Maybe we should change it to a 230 pace.

I don't think you should go on Aspley youth, there was a total of 8 bowlers that bowled the event.

I don't think it should use it as an example!

$2500 for 1st and 66 entries, cant justify not ranking it and im pretty sure they applied!! And can someone please tell me why you have to register? Just save the paperwork and give everyone points

And Tonx im satisfied with that explanation, if you execute well you score and make $ thats how it should be

I think the patterns for youth events this year has been very fair. When there has been mixed events, im 100% sure there was never a all boys cut. At least 1 or 2 girls have made the cuts.

I just know I will never apply for a ranked event again.

I tryed for this year to have an other ranked event in Surfers Paradise and they gave the ranking points to northern territory because of a lady that is on the committee up there. Well that is what I was told any way. Not putting money into any thing again after that.

Good luck TBA with the future.
