Captain Australia - Ronald Voukolos

im in favour with MICK AND GEORGE!

Actually im in favour for anything if it makes us send the BEST team over!!!!!!!
Laaaaaaaater

Why do we even need to name a captain?
I bowled in 7 Aussie teams and not once did we have a captain. All it does is give people like Qbert ammunition to fire off at people.
Personally I think if anyone should have got the job it should have been Billy cause i think he has alot of skills for this position. Personally I think Ronald will have a hard enough time bowling let alone having the added pressure of the seven letter word on his back.
Im not bagging Ronald so dont come on here and start slinging crap at me but Left Handed Men in Adult FIQ have not had a good record in the past for any country (THIS IS NOT AN OBSERVATION THIS IS A FACT) but who knows maybe Ronald will change all that.

To Ronald and Mac good luck for making the team. I know what its like to make it from 1st reserve so make the most of your fortunate situation. Do us all proud, "ALL OF YOU"

All The Best

In order to qualify to continue to take part in this discussion, please answer the following questions, by placing an ‘X’ in the box of your choice.

NOTE

Bowlers - please place X in one box only for each question, with the exception of Q.6.

Administrators & other Decision Makers You may place ‘X’ in both boxes (or neither) in each question, as you have an automatic exemption from any requirement to think "outside the square".

Q.1. Should Australian Representative Teams be selected:
On Bowling Ability?
YES [_] Go to Q.2
NO [_] Go to Q.7

Q.2 In order to select on ability, should this:-
Be left entirely to the judgment of Selectors

YES [_] You have finished the test, log off and disqualify yourself from all leagues and tournaments for six months.
NO [_] go to Q.3.

Q.3 Should we determine bowling ability by :
Current and Recent bowling results?
YES [_] go to Q.4.
OR
Other miscellaneous factors?
YES [_] accept an appointment, for the term of your natural life, to the T.B.A. Board, You are excused from the remainder of the test.

Q.4 Would you consider that a series of nominated Tournaments would provide a means to measure relative ability between bowlers?
YES [_] go to Q.5.
NO [_] sorry, there are no further vacancies on the T.B.A. Board. Would you accept a place in the team as compensation? You have finished the test (and failed).

Q.5. Would you agree that lane conditions in such Tournaments be set with regard to known F.I.Q. conditions, and that this requirement be supervised and enforced by the Sports’ Controlling Body?
YES [_] sorry, we don’t have a Sports’ Controlling Body, we only have the T.B.A., but go to Q.6. anyway.
NO [_] well, at least you’re realistic, also go to Q.6.

Q.6. Assuming that we have now sorted out relative abilities (regardless of Q.5.) should we now disregard this and remove any bowlers who:
a) Have not bowled in City, Zone, State or National Championships?
b) Have brown eyes?
c) Have not participated in President’s Shield or Rachuig Trials?
d) Are not good at jumping through hoops?
e) Any other pre-condition thought up from time to time?
f) Bowls with the wrong hand? (which hand this is, will be decided by toss of coin).

I agree with any or all of the above
YES [_] go back to Q.1. and attempt to resolve conflict and start test again
NO [_] Congratulations! You’ve passed the test, but what are you going to do about it?

Q.7 This question is not a question. This is an instruction. If you answered NO to Q.1. you have automatically agreed to the following:
That, for your own good and in the interests of Bowling, you be removed from your place of residence, and taken to a place of execution and there be compelled to bowl on dry lanes, with a highly reactive ball until you die of frustration.

NOTE TO EXECUTIONER Please ‘phone your nearest A.M.F. Centre, prior to arrival to ensure lane availability. No special lane preparation should be necessary.

FOOTNOTE Current team members, please don’t believe that this reflects upon you. Even a silly system can produce good results from time to time.

Michael,
we are on the right track, in fact your thinking is already pretty close to what probably went on in the selection room.
With a one definate exemption, I am fairly sure that the ORIGINAL 3 men and ladies selected were taken on results from ranked events, I mean we can bag the selectors all we want, but...Muir, Trotter and myself all in top part of the rankings, Cassell Bradley both in top 5 of rankings....ok the reserves and Cathy Elwell don't fall in line with your system, but selectors should be able to make a judgement call in some cases. (I still go back to the lanky dude selected in 1990...never made a cut in a magor tournament..how would have that gone over this year??)

Mate, the current system is not far off to what you propose, this year may have been a little unfair to someone like yourself, but the call was made that youth bowlers have the chance to bowl their way in, an selection open to only adult men, I believe that this will not be the situation next year for world's.

I'm not saying don't bowl ranked events, but as you know travelling is expensive and not everyone can do it. It is impossible to guage results from one or two tournaments if the magority of FIQ team contenders are not playing (ie Perth Cup...very few top 15 ranked bowlers here) apples need to be compared with apples. Any system is going to be viewed unfair to someone, you have made some valid points and they will be discussed at board level, thanks.

Frawls

I've never seen a big man duck and weave with so much style. Nothing personal but it stating to show the selectors made an error with the mens team.

I know whats been done will stand and today we move forward, good luck to our Aussie team.

Correct me if im wrong but if we count the number of right handers that have represented us im sure the Medal Talley stands rather fair. Ronald will show the way, a guy throwing in side out rather down 5 will lead the Aussies with a strong shot and a strong heart.

I'll take that as a compliment, I believe in the selection system used this year, I believe that is is fairer than ever before for more bowlers, and whilst there can be a few slight changes, all bowlers can expect to be rolling off in some format and some bowlers being selected next year.

And on next year, if one or two of this current team turn on superstar performances this year and bowl fairly well over the next 12 months....history has shown us that they will probably get a another chance.....it should make it for real interesting posting on this forum 12 months from now, looking forward to it.

Well Kim I was talking about the Male bowlers and i was talking about from all countries, not just Australia. Male lefthanders records from all countries is poor and it is a proven fact.
I think Ronald is a good bowler but just cause u say he has a strong shot and a strong heart doesnt mean s h i t if there is nowhere out there for him to play.

So i just corrected u. Thanks

Rob T

P.S. Left handed Women from this country have a very good record but as i said i was talking about the Men

I have enjoyed reading this section of the forum.

I would like to remind you that this is not Michaels system, it is the advertised system of TBA as Michael has mentioned in his post!

Not only are there a few men who should be disappointed but the "ONE DEFINATE EXEMPTION" from the Ladies div should also be quite disappointed having another bowler added to the team line up that doesn't appear to travel nor bowl in her own state

Frawls, try getting the system correct, it is TBA's system that they advertised. As George has mentioned, the pathways are set and each time the goal posts are moved.

Bye

Big Bob!
