Captain Australia - Ronald Voukolos

For those who haven't heard, Ronald Voukolos has been named Australian Mens team captain. Words can't begin to describe how I feel about this decision. From 1st reserve to Australian captain in a few weeks. The wise selectors must have been smoking some joints to come up with this pick. You'd have to feel for Billy who in a sane persons mind would be the obvious pick if there was a real need to have one anyway.

Thats about it for now, perhaps Captain Australia can grace us with his presence on this forum and tell us all how it feels to be a super hero for bowling kiddies around this country.

Well this is Unbelievable!!, Qbert, wat drugs are you on??....very bad one's to say the least!, its obvious that you are a nobody and no one really cares about your opinion!..so just give it up man, its a pity you cant tell people who you are..but no doubt you are a gutless piece of S H I T, and you are bad for the sport, Personally i think Ronald will do a fine job as a member of the team, and im not a 100% on this but it seems that Ronald is the most experienced member of this team with numerous Australian caps.

While I thank you for your support I think that the decision was made for the best of the team in the selectors eyes. Ronald has got my full support and I am sure he knows that. to say that I am not disappointed would be a lie because I am, to captain my country is something that I have strived for over many years, but as they say **** happens. The selectors have made there descision and there is nothing any of us can do to change it so Ronald can have the job and I am sure he will do his best.

i have no problem with any of qberts opinions, but i dont like him or others getting on here freely behind his nickname and abusing someone who HASNT DONE ANYTHING WRONG!!!!!

people often go "well how come bowling isnt a popular sport?" "how can we make it more popular?" etc. etc. my answer is get the losers like QBERT out of the game would go along way to making the game more popular! tell me, if you were a new bowler and read what qbert said, would you be encoraged to make it to the top level of the sport?? or even play the sport at ANY KIND of competitive level??

qbert is attacking the wrong people if he wants change, TBA is the people he needs to ring if he doesnt like it. not crapping on here about it. (this all being said, i do see and accept your point tho dj)

Look guys it is an usual decision perhaps but as the Frawlmeister said in another thread, Captain is just another 7 letters on his shirt and really only means something to the person who wears that shirt.

To represent your country is a HUGE HONOR and no doubt to be named Captain is enormous. However the job of the Captain is no different to all the other players in the team and that is to represnt their country to the best of their ability ON & OFF the lanes at all times HERE & ABROAD.

Lets not sledge the young man and put more pressure on what is already there. Lets support all of this years Rep's and hope they do well enough to bring back medals any flavour is nice but Gold is the Sweetest

As for Banning Q-Bert well i dont think its necessary, do u?

This has been said time and time again this is an open forum and people are allowed to have their say, as long as they are not directly derrogative towards others and the language used is fit for an OPEN FORUM.

My only beef with this Q-Bert, is for him not to sign off with his name, but hey what can u do thats his choice, i suppose.

There are people out there that know who he is and he may just be one of them to get the rest of the fish out there to snap at the bait, seems to be working.

If you dont like what he is saying ignore it why bring yourself down to a level that you yourself dont like

If you can remember back to one of the first really heated topics "SPASTIC LEFTHANDERS" this was started by a long time serving National Coach and was done to turn the heat up which it did so the objective was achieved

Simply if you dont like what is being said dont respond and if you do certainly dont ask for them to be dismissed.

My only query on this topic is this

If Ronald was the 3rd pick Captain then why wasnt he named as the 3rd selection?

I would have thought the 3rd selected bowler would have been given this honor

If it goes down to the fact he has 'Donned' more caps then he should have been selected in the first place!!!

I mean if Mark Taylor was Captain and Healey Vice and for some reason Healey couldnt play and they put Gilchrist in would he(Gilly) have been named Captain?

Absolutely not. Australian selectors have an in-built micro-chip which prevents them from appointing a wicket keeper as Captain.
If however, they do the right thing and select Gilchrist as a batsman, he would certainly be the replacement captain.
That would of course pave the way for a real keeper like Trevor Barsby to take his rightful place in the National Team.And yes I am still cross that Rod Marsh was not made Captain a few years back.
What has this got to do with Ronald Voukolos?
Very little, but it does go to show that sometimes,despite the criticism, the selectors actually get it right.

This is a community forum, and we are all entitled to express an opinion one way or another, even Qbert......let's just remember one thing.....
Ronald would NOT have asked to be captain..in fact he has never asked to be captain of any team, even NT Rachuig (there have been occasions when he has asked not to be considered as Captain!) so slagging him, directly or indirectly, is not the way to go in this instance. He has been selected to bowl and represent his country the same as the other fellas, and he will do the best that he can, as will they all....none of them need to go into camp and o'seas carrying this crap with them.
Qbert, if you have a problem, perhaps take it up with the selectors, whoever they were - let them tell you why they chose who they did, then leave it be.
Concentrate on your own bowling, look to next years FIQ selections, and calm the waters, coz if you continue to make the waves too big, you can bet your bottom dollar that your name will be omitted from the starting lineup again (assuming of course that you come out from behind your nom de plume!

Iwould like to congratualte Ron on being named as captain of the Adult team. He didnt ask for this title and it isn not his faulkt for being captaion so to people slagging him off please.............iots not his fault.

He wouldn't of asked for any of this and it's a shame that from some quarters Ronald can't get any credit without the implication he had help from somewhere. He's one of the nice guys of the sport, all he did was put his nom in like everyone else.

I think he is referring to former Queensland opening batsman Trevor Barsby who played 111 first class games and averaged 35 for his career, including scoring a vital 151 in Queenslands first innings in the Shield Final of 94/95 against South Australia, guiding Queensland to their first ever Sheffield Shield win.

Sometimes just when you think the forum is getting dull a post comes along which gets everyones hair on their back up! Reminds me of the good old spastic left hander days (I'm sure Aussie would have had something to say about last weekends Canberra open where 6 of the top 7 were left handers).

Anyway back onto the subject, Ronald did not ask for this title and he was surprised down at the AO when his name was read out as a reserve (hell, so was I). Now things have progressed further and it appears to be a process of elimination which got him the title.

Belmo - too young
Trotter - no experience
Mac Stewart - no experience
Anthony Flynn - ???
Billy G - tonnes of experience but perhaps previous indiscretions may have caught up with him
Ronald - no experience over the last 10 years

In my mind Billy is a clear captain but in saying that if making the decision was so tough, why have one? The other countries don't, why should we. It's a just a 7 letter word which gets embroided on your shirt which translates to about 7 tonnes of pressure (especially if you don't bowl much).

Anyway, I'm going to keep to myself, continue to bowl 40 tournaments a year though out Australia and the world and maybe one day I'll be good enough to wear the green and gold. Worlds are next year, and with a new year comes new surprises.

Firstly, Goerge ... where do you get Ronald having no experience for the last 10 years???? I can't give you exact dates but I'm sure you will find that all his Aus Rep experience has been in the last 10 years .... after all he is only 25 now!

Now to QBERT, like everyone else .... your opinion (if you can call it that) means absolutley nothing if your not willing to put your name to it!

While I admit I am a good friend of Ronalds .... I can assure you he did not ask for any of this and is one of the nicest guys in bowling. He is a proven big time performer and I am sure will bowl well when away. The team has now been selected and he is captain - full stop. How about supporting him and the rest of the team, they are all great bowlers and will go away and do there best for us & themselves!!!
