Your version on the St.Kildav Fremantle game

I think that morally the right decision was made but am astounded that the AFL has gotten away unscathed from this fiasco (some reporters are actually saying they have done very well and improved their standing in the community).

Here are a few points to consider:

1. Freo 14 points up with 2 minutes to go. How bad were they to let the Saints even have a sniff.
2. The AFL issued an official result sheet 30 minutes after the game. The bookies pay out on this.
3. The AFL has known about this problem for years and not fixed it. Can everyone remember a few years ago when they had the cow bell ready on the sidelines of the MCG when the sirens failed.
4. The AFL could have had Brian Cunningham (a proven first class football administrator) but they chose Anderson (you get what you pay for).
5. Demetriou saying the buck stops here but immediately blaming the timekeeper.
6. The AFL not changing the system (ie: really they are saying that there is nothing wrong). Any decent manager should have known that this was a potential problem that just didn't need to be there. All games are fully televised, why not make the game end when the timekeeper presses the button. If there is any disupte, then you can go to video coverage to confirm the winner.
7. In soccer, the referee gets told how much time on at the end of the game but they blow the final whistle. Apart from this, what other major sport in the world has a timekkeeper not in control of the end of the game?
8. I wonder if their rules are discrimanatory? How can a deaf umpire ever make it to the top level of the AFL? If he can't hear the siren, how can he end the game or even each quarter?

I can add plenty more (and not just on the siren issue). Any comments?
