Why Queensland men can't win Rachuig

Diplomatic as always Rob. Well I am not.

The attitude that "I am ranked no xx in Australia so I should be in the team regardless" stinks and does sound elitist to me. If people want to bowl Rachuig then they should commit to the thing and not go halfway expecting to get on the team because they think they should be there.

I'll finish your quote "We are ranked 1,2 and 6 in the country, we should be in the team regardless but due to current processes in Queensland we are not"

Why wouldn't you want to have the best in the State representing the State? Isn't that logic? When it comes to other sports like NRL, Cricket, Soccer etc do you think they try and field their best possible teams or just let everyone enter and have a raffle on selection. In what other sports do Nations best miss out or not bother applying for State representation.

My post is about having the best bowlers bowl Rachuig, not only in Queensland but in Australia. Until processes Nationally and within States change our countries best will not feature in this competition. Do I think the top players in the country should get an autospot in the State team, hell yes!

I still want Queensland to win, I just don't think they can. I will be at the bowl cheering them on but they are certainly up against it

It's not just Queensland

Why are the current Australian ranked players not participating in our National Championship? Why are the states not attracting them? We know the problem in the Queensland but it seems you have the answers for everything so can you enlighten us please

1 Frilingos George QLD - Not bowling
2 Qualischefski Brandon QLD - Not bowling
3 Little Michael NSW - Not bowling
4 Nucifora Angelo QLD - Bowling
5 Walsh Jason NSW - Not bowling
6 Bottomley Carl QLD - Not bowling
7 Lean Jarrod NSW - Not bowling
8 Fitzgerald Dale NSW - Not bowling

9 Trotter Paul VIC - Bowling
10 McArthur Andrew NT - Bowling

George
Quite possibly the others may not be able to bowl simply because they cant get time off work or their spouses want them to fix up the house instead.
As far as other sports not having the Best in there teams - look at the swimming - Ian Thorpe false started and he was out of the race. Only peer pressure and Stevens heart allowed him back on the team

I think i can answer this one...HE DIDN'T pay his Bill...otherwise i am led to believe he was bowling...

Hope that helps!

Many individual sports, especially those that have significant prize money for standalone events. Golf and tennis are typical. Does Soccer Australia require our best players to nominate for State events? I don't recall Harry Kewell playing for Qld recently.

Remember the furore a while back when Thorpe missed the 400m selection? If you are a swimmer, you turn up to designated events and swim fast enough to make the team. If you don't tough luck - they don't fall back on world rankings to pick a team.

George, the question has to asked - if you are so passionate about bowling for QLD why did you not simply pay your commitments? Had you made any attempt to abide by the conditions set out in the nomination form, you would still be in the team. For whatever reason, you chose not to. As it turns out, you probably could have gotten away with treating the entire training process with with contempt, but you also chose to not pay up on top of that. Despite knowing exactly what would be required of you when you nominated. Your decision, nobody else.

Yes, I would like to see the best bowlers in Australia, let alone QLD, at Rachuig. The best ranked bowler actually was, until HE chose a path that resulted in his removal. We had three of the top 5 ranked bowlers in QLD nominate this year - not a bad effort, given the cost and commitment in time required.

So I didn't pay the 3rd installment in time and I didn't attend a training camp, I can cop my punishment, it's my fault. I am totally accountable for my own actions.

Allowing another kicked out member who didn't pay an installment back into the team who hasn't forfiled ANY requirements (State Champs, Coaching sessions, not to mention hasn't bowled anything) over reserves who did the right thing is another issue I have a problem with.

You are missing my point as per usual.......

1. Current QLD processes do not attract the best possible players to represent their state
2. Rachuig as a whole need to look at itself as a competition and establish why the Nations elite choose not to attend

I can't think of any other sport in which this happens.

The whole thing is very simple George. If you want to bowl for the state then you follow the qualification process and commit to it. If you don't want to bowl then you don't follow it.

Whether or not the process is right is not what I am getting at. You seem to think you should be in the team just because the ranking system says you are no 1. This thread stinks of you thinking you are too good for the process. You did NOT follow the process (by your own admission) and you are not in the team. Your whole post looks like sour grapes.

You can debate the process itself all you want as that is another issue.

I don't agree with most of what's going on here but, I have to agree with George on this one!

Would this mean that if some else was kicked out or pulled out, George would be back into the team?

I think you are bashing your head against a brick wall mate. The old boys club syndrom is alive and well in Bowling.
I,like you think that what was the premier team event in Australia, maybe the southern hemisphere is on it's last legs and requires an urgent review as does the whole
sport which is in a downward spiral.

So you think that simply because of where someone is ranked they should be able to bypass any qualifications/commitments etc and be automatically added to the team? You honestly believe that nowhere in Australia are there bowlers who don't give a **** about rankings and just bowl when and where they enjoy it?

I am not saying anyone on here doesnt deserve to be in any of the teams. I just think that they should commit to whatever the process is at the time and not think they are exempt just because of how good THEY think they are.

Now, a question for George:

Tell me, who would you ask to step aside for you to go into the team anyway? Who do you think doesn't deserve to be there and isn't good enough?

This thread has enlightened me to the reason why I stopped bowling 20+ years ago. It was too expensive back then and it is too expensive today. There was politics in the sport back then and there are politics in the sport today.

I guess the hardest thing to do to get bowling into some serious money is getting major sponsors.

I was told today a major beer company spends mega dollars on bowling in the USA. Why are they not here in Australia? How good would the Rachuig tourny look if it was sponsored by some big dollars? Someone in TBA has probably looked into this before but the question has to be asked.

Maybe, if there was some good money and good media attention then every state would pick up their game and make the selection process more professional than it is today.

I agree, perhaps an explanation to the reserves to why this happened to the reserves who did everything plus more that was expected as requirements...

I didnt want to say anything as I didnt want to be in sh!t for it, but they wonder why not alot of youth bowlers roll off for this, its honestly too much politics... wats wrong with rolling off n making the team based on how u bowled, not about whos favourite you are. A bowler rolled off and topped youth qualifying for the state team, yet he wasnt even selected for either team and even when others were kicked out or whatever still wasnt put in when he fulfilled EVERY requirement. (Im sure many of you know who i mean).. However, its just not much inspiration for bowlers who see that happening to want to nominate, especially the younger lot just ageing through...

An explanation would be good - or even an acknowledgement of emails - the secret society is alive and well in TBAQ offices.............

Hayles I have learnt that it is only the depth that varies - you get used to being in the Sh!t

Does anyone whos read this thread own a copy of the March 1991(and last!!) copy of Pin Action, read the very big letter from a prominent(at the time) Qld bowler and decide if anything has changed........

i totally agree.

In the haste to criticise, some of us need to be reminded that if it were not for certain people there would not be an Invitational Team at all this year.

2 people and 2 people alone, Morty Douglass and Rob Buckley, were the prime movers in presenting the plan to retain an Invitational Team and to unite Queensland. It was due to their efforts alone that the Board was persuaded to continue with an Invitational Team.

To date, the majority of TBAQ Board members have not become involved in the mechanics and the rights and wrongs of this years process however they are well aware that TBAQ has come in for considerable Internet criticism this year and they will look at all ways and means of correcting this situation next year.

Just I an attempt to ensure that there are no more mis truths. I am the Person that was removed from the Team and placed back in the Reserves. I would also point out that the comments regarding training are not accurate. Anyhow just want to make sure that everyone is at least on the same page as to who George is referring to instead of guessing.
