Which of our top bowlers are attending the Mens World's Camp in Sydney?

I guess I'd have to agree a little with everyone here. Its not a perfect process but it is a process. Like Belmo said 'my 6 and your 6 and her 6 and his 6 will all be different' so there has to be a process. Four months is nowhere near enough time to develop a process, and getting other things seen to.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion here because afterall it is a bowlers forum where you bounce ideas, thoughts and opinions around. But if someone seriously wants to know how we got here and what's planned for the future then pick up the phone and ask.

I know now that the future will see us having a very strong national training squad with national coaches and national managers and a great pool to train and choose national teams from. This will take time and work.

I'm not bitter about having to raise money for the Youth team because I know this won't happen in the future. They may be Youth but they don't turn to their parents for handouts. They may not have mortgages but nor will they for some time now but like everyone they have commitments relative to their situation.

This thread has got a little off topic because its says 'Who is attending Mens Camp' but I guess its a heated topic at the moment.

Dozza :):):)

P.S. 2 weeks to Youth USA and I'm excited .... GOLD GOLD GOLD!!!

see this is wats wrong with this whole thing...when the player who has just won the 08 AO and Melb cup with i think a 5th place at K&K is INELIGIBLE to roll off...thats just not right in my opinion

Matt isn't ineligible to Roll Off. He has to get an exemption so he can roll off even though he didn't bowl those events. I'd be in the same situtation i didn't bowl 2 of those events so i have to apply for exemption aswell so i could roll off.

yeh but chris thats the prob...matt sent off his excemption as soon as the criteria got released but he still has not heard back from the TBA or Gillian or whoever it goes to

No disrespect to Mat…I think Matt deserves a run in that Team, but then if all these exemptions’ are being handed out then why have rules in place in the first place…

Like I said all along…A one day Roll off for and Aussie Team to go to worlds is a Joke…

That’s why it should be any registered bowler with TBA is eligible to nominate for this team…Then select it from there…

For the first time in a lot of years they could be sending one of, if not the Best Australian men’s team away ever…Yet rules in place, a one day roll off and or high costing could be about to stuff that all up…

I know there is a fair chance that two of the country’s top 5 ranked players at the moment (right hander’s) may not be nominating from a cost factor point of view…I can assure you that at least one of if not both of them would be close to being in the top 6…

It’s a shame if we don’t get to send the BEST TEAM away because of the cost factor or grey areas surrounding rules and regulations…

Philby, as Jarrod has said, I am not sure how you could make the assumption that bowlers don't want to represent their country because they haven't nominated. Due to the short time frame, people have to take into consideration their own personal influences which Doust has mentioned previously. Its just called reality. This year at Worlds, looks like every team will be at the peak of its powers, yet the chance of us sending our best team is slim to none at present. This doesn't mean as Belmo has said that those that go won't be giving 100% either. But for something like this, you need all 6 chosen to be at the peak of their powers, no exceptions. I honestly can't recall a representative team within the last 10 years where the best 4 or 6 players have gone, either due to poor selections, peoples personal situations, cost factor etc etc.

When you go on these trips overseas, there is nothing better than knowing you come from Australia, you get stuff all assistance in terms of organised training, regular team training (previous years of course) in comparison to some of the powerhouse countries from Asia, Europe and America, you pay your own way every time and bowl for pretty much nothing else than pride and a rare pat on the back, you are a relative underdog, yet here you are matching it with the worlds best on a world stage and making other countries with these organised programs look stupid because they have had it too good for too long and don't know anything about hard work. I will give you my example from 2003 World Champs, two and a half weeks in Malaysia, had to take leave without pay for that time, personal cost approx $2500, team fee $1500 x 2 with Amanda as well, 2 1/2 weeks of spending money approx $2000-2500 again. So you do the sums and tell me that when we represent our country we don't do it with pride, passion and determination and that we are the ones who continue to make these sacrifices. And if you are lucky enough to be successful, then that is something that gets to stay with you for a long time.

Just imagine if we can get to the stage to be able to use and adapt training programs that have been successful with other countries and kick on from there?

Unfortunately, the team process for this year has been a rushed affair, and yes the World Champs weren't organised a few days ago, everyone has known they have been coming up, the problem has just been the time organise everything, previous poor adminstration and too few people to do too many things.

It really just comes down to a case of bad timing, its the way it is and we can only hope that the future will be brighter.

Nice post Michael. I should state that at no time was i bringing the passion and determination of past Australian teams into disrepute. I was merely stating the lack of passion for this selection process. Maybe i didn't express myself correctly but the written word can be taken in so many different contexts.
If any past or present Australian Reps have taken offense at my statements about passion then i apologize profusely as that was not my intent.
Of course i understand that financial constraints have a big bearing on who can and cant afford to go. That generally goes without saying.
I just hope whoever does get selected gets support from the greater bowling community in Australia as the Youth team has.
Phil

Every year bowlers have to weigh up what they can afford: time, money, obligations, injury etc.

Every Team chosen: Junior, Youth, Adult etc, be it Local, State or National is the best team for the job.

You are picking the best team on the day - it doesn't matter whether you think Joe is better than Jack, the bowlers that make the Team should be acknowledged. They will be giving it their best for Australia.

Michael says:"previous poor adminstration and too few people to do too many things". And that is right...

Timing has been lousy, in future it will be better.

Well i cant believe what im reading here!

The highest possible achievement in any sport is to represet your country. It is farcical that selection to make the team should come down to a 1 day roll off. How the hell does that show who is in the best current form from the top of the bowling tree?

Consistent results like Matt has achieved for example this year, is the best guage of form. The damm process is a joke, i say. A JOKE!

I will never be good enough or deserving enough to represent my country or probably even state level in this game but i am damm sure that common sense is not prevailing here, and that is 1 thing at least i have (some may say otherwise).

The process should be based on current results over the last 6-12 months in super six, national ranked and state level events. A commitee or selection panel, like all sports should have been convened well in advance, and monitor within, the performance of those they feel would be best suited to be picked.

This is a disgraceful situation to put our sport into, and only makes bowling sink further into the sand and is beyond reproach. TBA get your **** together and make the process easy to understand and place itin the hands of people at the high performance end who are capable of making the right decisions and allowing our country to send the best possible team away to make us proud and show the world we are a great bowling nation.

People are saying this is too late to address, but i believe its never too late and can be changed if the TBA are willing. They are certainly able, but is anyone willing and is anyone there listening to the community they are appointed to represent. I dont think so!

Just take a look at what the yanks did with regardes to selection.......They went and asked five of the the world's top pro's (Walter Ray, Barnes etc, etc) if they wanted to be in it. Then to keep faith with the non pros threw in AMF world Cup winner Bill Hoffman.

Now that's what I call a selection process!

A simple question.

Do we have a team or a roll-off?

Maybe this is an indication ...

http://www.2008wmc.com/results/2008/participants.asp

I noticed the other day that airfares to the event were about $1340 return (can be a lot cheaper) and accomodation was about $780 - 5 star at that, a double, and entry fee was US$250, makes a single entry a bit over $2000 + food etc. Raw figures I know, where did $3500 come from?

Such a simple question and when were the roll-off's again???

Just noticed that list of countries competing on the official tournament website, as of yesterday, did not include Australia.

Is it possible that we've done it yet again...nah must be a clerical error..

Finally as of this morning the roll off gents are, as from the TBA website
