Sponsership

i would have to ask the question "what can be offered to a sponsor" and "is sponsorship neccesary" we all take part in sports as they are hobbies and hobbies cost money, professional sports people use sport as their primary income and find it easier to acquire sponsorship.

I look at it in the way if i was to sponsor something what will it do for me, what will my hard earned $$$ return for me. I wouldnt even consider sponsoring something purely because the competitors have trouble raising the funds to do what they enjoy doing, to me thats a handout.

Its a sad situation when people have trouble affording the things they love but at the end of the day we all have to live within our means. As kids most of us (the ones that werent born with silver spoons in their mouths) we would quite often heard "sorry but we cant afford it right now" and we learned to deal with it.

Also with sponsorships they really can dictate a substantial amount in terms of clothing and such, how would teams feel if sponsors demanded they wore clothing that was outrageous and really stood out, would people feel silly as advertising billboards that would attract so much attention.

If i was to sponsor a womens team it would be imperitive that extremely short skirts shall be worn, as that will attract peoples attention and gain my sponsorship more exposure

What business are you in, G Strings???;):D

nah nothing like that, even if the advertising was on a shirt, a short skirt would get people attention and they will actually look at the shirt without realising

I, for one, being a 'Senior', would not wear your advertising, especially if it had a 'rider' that I had to wear a short skirt. I have not worn one of those for several (30) years, and would find it offensive to be expected to do so.

I might. But only if I didn't have to shave my legs. (I hate shaving.)

Methinks think Vulgarwolf is stirring the pot...

Vulgarwolf,
Yep you stand for your name, your attitude is what brings down the hard work people try to do to get "proper sponsorship" - which is hardly a handout ... your comments do nothing to assist the cause.
Let me explain sponsorship :Sponsorship may be an arrangement to exchange advertising for the responsibility of funding a popular event or entity. For example, a corporate entity may provide equipment for a famous athlete or sports team in exchange for brand recognition. The sponsor earns popularity this way while the sponsored can earn a lot of money. This type of sponsorship, known as cause-related, is prominent in the sports, arts, media and charity sectors.
Many times a company's motives for sponsorship are altruistic in order to create goodwill in the community which increases their good reputation. However, sponsorship is more commonly used to derive benefit from the associations created for a company's brand(s) or image as a result of the sponsorship.
Sponsorship belongs to the promotional tool of Marketing, and can also be an accounting tool as an offset to reduce tax.
The problem we have in our industry is having the ability to make business understand or show them the benefits of what they will receive for their dollar, unless there is a direct monetary, imagary, or taxation relief gain, (I'm pretty sure money offsetting tax for perving at a womans bum didn't qualify as a tax deduction) then they are simply being charitable and in today's business climate ..... I don't think so ...
So I would suggest you contact your local centre and find out how you can assist with funding or even a service you can provide that can be raffled or even a percentage of income that can go back in the way of a rebate for every client ringing from the advertising in that centre ... however your "imperative" requirement goes against any reputable guidleines ...
So we need to "develop" a structure, which will take a long time, where it can introduce local businesses into a National entity with local focus as well as National brand recognition for corporations wishing to gain a market share.

Here is an idea, with all the teams / people travelling around Australia and the cost of excess baggage being a killer on these "cut price airlines" Virgin the exception..Keep the air fare guys...(a nice little plug there) why not have a National courier company that can airfrieght the equipment at a competitive rate and have a rebate back to TBA in recognition of the loyalty, this way bowlers can get cheaper flights with carry on baggage only and their equipment arrives the same day anyway .. just a way of thinking outside the square.

sponsorship is not charitable, sponsorship is never one way both parties receive something whether its just a simple logo, a sticker or a complete uniform. Can you ever think of any situation where a company sponsored a person or an event and got no recognition.

When a business sponsors a community event they get mentioned, if a sponsor gives funds or materials and gets no recognition at all its not a sponsor its a hand out and i would put money on it that the business would no longer sponsor that event again.

Dont read into things too much, just look at things logically

Alot of interesting reading on the definiations of sponsorship we get letters and phone calls almost daily in our business asking for help my husband says about 90% of them should be called donations as you know you are not going to get anything in return for them but it still does not stop him from saying yes if we can.
Nobody has said yet if they think my idea could work as i am a positive thinking person i would still like to know if it might work or am i putting my time and energy to waste.
As for asking for sponsorship i have a marketing manager who would be doing this.
Cindy.

Cindyd - your husband of course is 100% correct - generally speaking "support" from companies and corporations for community and sporting groups is little more than a donation...and there is nothing wrong with that because often a small "rub" for the sponsor helps along the way - and of course there are certain social obligations large entities have.

Howvere , big time returns are hard to deliver in a sport like bowling [compared to major sports like AFL, NRL etc etc]...although more often than not even in these sponsor/entity relationships it is darned are hard to calculate the formal returns - as is often said by a corporate CEO - "50% of my promotions budget works - I just don't know which half"!! In the end - you should simply do whatever you feel is right - take all the ideas given [well maybe think twice about the really short skirt concept - unless you let me sit on the selection panel] add your own and charge ahead.

Break a leg.

Vulgarwolf, Yep I looked at your requirement for sponsorhip logically, how else can you read it if the women HAVE to wear short skirts ... you want people to perve up their skirt, and unless the shirt is tucked in I wouldn't be paying attention to it ...
I have explained what sponsorship actually is and you are partially right in that the sponsor needs to get something back, but there are levels of what they would want, a major one is image, as Jagga and Broni said unlees you are promoting G strings, and I feel I would have to get pretty close to read the logo, I don't think the women would let me so that idea would be sunk ...

We all agree that there is money out there.. look at the mining boom and the support industries have made mini millionaires.... so a pro-active co-ordinated effort is needed to secure some of those, it has to start from the top for National and corporate identity, going to TV stations etc to see start selling the product we have and get the sports guys to slowly add a 10 sec speil here and there, then increase it a little at a time, get a sponsor on board to sponsor that lttle event like Nescafe weather watch or something, then at the other end community recognition of some maller industries, ie in Rockingham we have the Challenge Ford Cup which challenger Ford sponsor, becvause they have a direct gain from supporting locally....its a tough gig but if we don't start then it just won't happen

How much of a sponsors money can be tax deductable? If it's put to them that they can claim it back it might persuade more firms to part with their dosh.

The whole point of a short skirt is to catch peoples attention, a company logo would be on a shirt, but the whole point of the short skirt is to get peoples attention to start with and then they will also look at the shirt, look at it in the way of retail, half of the sale is complete by getting the customer into the store.

Are you telling me that if you see a nice pair of legs you dont have a look at the rest of the person and wouldnt notice any more of their clothing/advertising.

There is a raft of justifiable expenses that business can deduct to a level of 100% - and that includes sponsorship and advertising. However - firstly there wouldn't be a business man or woman alive worth their salt that isn't aware of this as fact - and two, the trick is to ensure that the potential sponsor is convinced that whatever they are spending their hard earned promotional money on gives valued return for their dollar and maximises impact on their product or service. Easier said than done - and despite my interest for the concept - I don't think short skirts will cut it - well not entirely - I must be getting old!
