Hi All,
Been a nervous wait, but Townsville has been confirmed as the 2013 Nationals venue. Just thought I'd put out some info about the centre and some of our plans for the event. TBA will no doubt be releasing the event schedule and information on the Masters and other events in due course.
The basics - Kirwan has 24 lanes of HPL overlays with wood approaches. Conditioning is with a Kustodian Plus, with Kegel cleaning products and conditioner. Townsville might be a long way from most places, but we have a busy airport with flights being reasonably priced, especially if you can book early. Any extra costs in flights will I'm sure be offset by the cost of accomodation, which is cheaper than the capital cities, and much lower travel times - the bowl is 15 minutes or less from pretty much anywhere in the city.
The Bowl food is very good and good value. Geoff Ott runs the Cafe and he is an awesome chef. Practise rates are $4 per game, 3/$10 or $3/game for 5 or more, for all TBA members. We will be using two squash courts for the ball paddocks, so there will be plenty of room for gear. There will also be a dedicated area for ball maintenance with a spinner/s available for casual use and (by then) a deoiling oven. The Bowl will be a wifi hotspot for the duration of Nats with free internet access for all competitors and officials.
We are planning to live stream the entire Nationals, with one camera every 4 lanes (so be on good behaviour lol). We are also going to be running several mini-events after the squads at night, depending on sponsors, with different formats - hopefully these will be popular and help put a few $$$ back into some pockets.
If the interest is there, we would like to host some information sessions/seminars on subjects like reading lane transitions, equipment selection and layouts, ball drilling and maintenance, etc.
I'm sure I have left a lot out, and I would like to invite suggestions from everyone here on what you would like to see at Nationals. Please try to be constructive (or at least humorous) - we want to make this a great experience for everyone attending.
Cheers, Robbie.
