$1 million Dollar fire at woodville bowl this morning, dont know the extent. I believe the lanes are intact but the front end isn't pretty. Electrical fire I heard on the radio caused it.
Don't how long it will take to get up and running again .
cheers

Good Morning All, i have just been down to the bowl to see the damage. It looks bad but the lanes survived (just!!). The office, desk, and function-rooms are all gutted, there is quite a bit of ash on the lanes. The trouble now is re-locating the leagues, esp Vili's on Monday Night. Does not look like anyone was hurt. Hopefully Woodville will be back in time for SA Cup.

Initial indications are that Woodville will be out of action for quite a while. It is thought that the SA Cup will be moved. Will keep everyone updated.

from lanes 1-4, the roof in the players area had collapsed, lanes 1-3 the roof over the lanes had collapsed, the office, function rooms, cafe, pro shop, all gone in the flames, heaps of ash everywhere like brad said, very very messy. i also was there, and its not pretty.

the league are probably going to move to Cross Road and Norwood. Vilis will probably go to Cross Road as it is the only other 32 lane centre in Adelaide and theres 30 lanes of bowlers.

hope everything will be ok

As far as I know the the SACUP was going to be moved to Cross Roads anyway, but I'm sure AMF will confirm that.

Is the news right that the whole bowling alley will be demolished?

strop : it was planned to be at Woodville next year, but it may have to be moved now. Most likely to Cross Road.

brad : no that is untrue. Noone has been allowed in yet (to the best of my knowledge) to actually assess the damage, so no decisions like that would have been made yet.

Ive heard Woodville will be out for 6 months? Is that true? It’s a bit early to tell!

But if it can not be ready in time for SA cup were will it be held?

I hope it is rebuilt ASAP, also has anyone got any pictures? Ill is hoping to go c this 2morrow sometime!

This is a very unexpected and sad event. Enjoyed the setup at Woodville while bowling the 2002 Sa Cup.

Hope notice of the venue change is given as soon as a decision is made to allow all of us travelling to bowl the SA Cup in the new year a chance to book accommodation close to the venue.

Interesting thought crossed my mind! Woodville's bowlers have many alternatives to satisfy there bowling habit being in the wonderful city of Adelaide.

If this scenario happened to any of you living in a non metropolitan area how would you cope?

Would they choose to reinvest in the centre or would bowling simply disappear from your landscape?

How far is the next nearest bowl to you?

Much has been said about the SA Cup, but as far as I can see the main issue here is that there are many people affected by this tradgedy, mainly the casual staff that will now have no workplace. I offer my condolences to these people as in all probability are now unemployed!
Who cares is you have to travel an extra 30 mins to bowl as many of these staff do just that on a daily basis.
There are still 3 fine AMF centres ready to accept those that need to swing their arm.

Hi

This is very sad news! It was great going to Woodville this year for the SA Cup. Lacky and I had a great time! Hopefully, they won't be out of action for too long.

Back in 1991, Capalaba Bowl in Brisbane was totally destroyed by fire due to an electrical fault. I know how the bowlers and staff must be feeling. It was devastating! We were all relocated to Mt Gravatt but 12 months later, a new one (bigger and better) was reopened. It was great to go back home!

Looking forward to having you up and operational, bigger and better soon Woodville!

You'll be missed for a little while!!

Well just got home from having a look. Not able to go in due to cleaning up! YES, cleaning up at this time (12:13am). Just shows how much people care about this bowling centre! Of what I could see, which wasn’t very much it was a mess. I was unable to get any pictures of Woodville due to the fact I didn’t have my camera with me and we were not aloud to go in. when I first saw the bowl my jaw just drop once again, going around the back, I was just in SHOCK. From what I could there wasn’t much of the pro shop or the cafe left, the office, function rooms just as bad!

I hope they can get this GREAT centre up and running ASAP

Cheers Ashley

AMF staff have been at the Centre all day, moving what they can out and storing any loose items.

Reportedly the main structure of the building is fine, however the roof over the creche had collapsed (and had to be torn away anyway for fire crews to douse flames).

I have been told that the "league folders were recovered and the bookings sheet is almost perfect" ... which is some good news in such a terrible circumstance, staff are able to contact customers directly which is always positive!

For up to date information for customers, please contact Daniel or Belinda at AMF Cross Road, on 08 8271 2355.

Shocked to log in and read this news.
Hopefully you can recover and rebuild very soon, and become even stronger.

It most shocking to learn that woody burn down it is not good but tragic :( , i never forget seen woody bowling it was best bowling center for many years i would bet say that woody would have been first bowling center in adelaide or so, i almost forget what woody look like but still remember it was big center, all my hope to woody bowlers and get speedy recover asap all my prayers.

I haven't been down to have a look but the pictures on the news and in the paper didn't look pretty!! Hopefully all the casual workers don't find themselves on the unemployed list and hopefully AMF will find somewhere to put them while Woodville reopens!!! StoneCold it wasn't the first bowl in Adelaide that was Cross Road, but Woodville has been open for quite a while!!! Hopefully all is good and those casual workers still have jobs, i know some were working at Cross Road on Friday, but that may have just been on Friday!!

Sorry got my facts sorta rong Cross Road was the 1st AMF, but Bayside was the first bowl in SA!!!

Dion,
Wasn't the first bowling centre in SA (and in Aust?) Bayside Bowl?

Yea - Bayside bowl was one of the first in Australia, but it was the first in SA. Quite a choice centre if you ever got to bowl there.... lol.
