Why

Its is mans nature to try. What defines the greatness of a mans Nature is if he fails, to get up and try again. Thats why.

I'm referring to the Emerson Northern zone finals. What's the incentive to win the top spot? Or for that matter, what's the incentive to finish anywhere in particular other than in the bottom three spots?

Pride, ego, bragging rights, satisfaction.

It does not need to be $$$, also you have a chance to go one op on the other teams that go through.

Pity I will not be bowling the zone final, I was looking forward to it.

I would have thought that YOU have something to prove - Wayne. After all the talk, now it's down to business. Would be good if you brought the rest of the "team" with you, instead of the negativity.

Like Rob, I will not be bowling, but WILL be cheering the side on.

David

As a newcomer to Emerson, I'm not surprised you dont get it. Emerson has never needed monetary incentive to interest people.

But hopefully you will understand after the weekend.

David..
I have nothing left to 'prove'
I've bowled against many of the best bowlers in the world. Beaten some, lost to others.

This is a TEAM EVENT..I would just like to see a reason for each team to put their best efforts forward to win EVERY point. As the format stands, THERE IS NO INCENTIVE TO 'WIN'

I guess that depends on why you actually bowl in the first place.

I think saying there is 'no incentive' is an opinion that may or may not be shared by other bowlers representing their centre.

i remember reading somewhere

“Winning isn't everything, but the will to win is everything.”

Why put your best team forward? Why bowl the best shot you can every single shot? To be the best you can be. Why else?

As a blunt question, if you have nothing left to prove, why do you want to bowl events like Emerson or Country Cup. Both these events are great teams events (provided you have a team that is) where pride is on the line, money has never been on offer.

So why would anyone want to finish top spot rather than 2nd? Just think of it as a dress rehearsal.

All good.

David.

I've emailed Ray Hodge for clarification of exactly how the $350 per team entry fee is being used/dispersed...but as of right now I haven't received a reply. Anyone else care to let me in on to where the $150 per team excess ($200 for lineage) is going. I had heard there was a prize fund of sorts but no confirmation or details were forthcoming.

Unfortunately the BENDIGO team will be going into battle without David Farquharson. So I invite ALL teams to please go easy on us.

And since I'm on the subject....
Since when is 1st v 8th, 2nd v 7th, 3rd v 6th and 4th v 5th a POSITION(al) round?
BALDERDASH!

Medallions are presented to 1st 2nd and 3rd, for both the men and women. And the winning team members receive a shirt each.

In our case, the only thing the bowlers pay for is a team shirt, so I doubt the centre itself will tolerate any subterfuge..... there always block prizes for high games, also high average awards.

Ray isnt in his office either these 2 days so you might have to wait until thursday for a reply Wayne.
