2006 South Pacific Classic held in AMF Moorabbin Victoria this weekend– AMF Super Six Round 5
Jason Walsh of NSW and Rebecca Simpson of NT have taken out the 2006 SPC Classic and earned the right to represent Australia in 42nd AMF World Cup in November.

Jason Walsh is off to compete in the 42nd AMF World Cup in Caracas Venezuela in November after defeating 1996 SPC Champion Carl Bottomley, three-games-to-none in the final match of the 42nd running of South Pacific Classic presented by AMF.

In the best-of-five games match play final, Walsh won a close opener, 217-204, and then straight to a two game lead with another close match 237-235. Walsh clinched the 2006 title with a third and final close game 224-214.
Bottomley bowling in his first major tournament in over 4 months showed us why he is still highly regarded as one of Australia’s best on the lanes on any condition.
In the semi-finals Walsh eliminated 81 SPC champion Terry Wenban, 3-1, while the 96 SPC champion Bottomley, swept the other remaining New South Welshman, Andrew Frawley 3-2.
Qualifying on day 1
Fresh from his bronze medal performance at the Men’s World Championship, Jarrod Lean of New South Wales, took an early lead in only the first block of the tournament, rolling a 528 including a second game and tournament Hi Game score of 299.Current Australian Youth Team member Michael Zentveld set a blistering pace in the Men’s 2006 South Pacific Classic held in AMF Moorabbin Victoria this weekend. Zentveld from Harvey Bay in Queensland, shot a huge 4911 22-game series, an average of 223.23, to become the No. 1 seed for Sunday's single-elimination match play finals, and that earned him the bye in the first round.
After 494 block to start (249 and 245), Zentveld fired games of 203, 220 and 226 before he closed out the first round of Qualifying with a 1816 eight-game series (232,222 and 219) to lead day one on +216. Queenslanders filled the top three positions on the first day, with Hamish Rogers, +172 and Carl Bottomley, +143 rounding out the top three.
The second day became moving day for a lot of the bowlers; NSW’s Andrew Frawley being the most noticeable, starting his second stage of 8 Games qualifying sitting in 33rd position, Frawley shot a very impressive, 1793 eight game series +193 to move to 11th spot, Alex Krishnan of Victoria rounded out the top 28 and final qualifying position at +5.
Zentveld second eight games of qualifying on day two, got off to a slow start (183 and 186), Zentveld then fired 9x 200+Games out of the next 12 , as he closed out the round with an 519-Block (232 and 287) and impressive +511 for his 22 games. Paeng Nepomuceno of the Philippines was a distant second on +410 and local Victorian bowler and former Australian representative Mac Stewart qualified 3rd at + 368. Tasmanian bowler Hayden George rounded out the top 14 at +108. 2005 defending champion George Frilingos started steady in his title defense. Frilingos qualified in 10th spot with a 4684 pin fall 212.91 average +284.
The top 14 out of 70 players qualified for the single-elimination best-of-five-games match play finals on Sunday starting at 9.45am. The top 2 semi-final leaders, Zentveld of Queensland and Nepomuceno of the Philippines’ bypassed the first round with a bye to the second round.
