The Wrestling Thread

MVP is really tricking mre off.

Like..I think its clear to all WWE fans that Jeff Hardy is way BETTER than MVP!

Jeff doesn't really make me think "exciting match". He actually bores me a bit.
MVP's getting the same.
Shelton Benjamin is really stepping up. I'm loving his matches lately.
THE Brian Kendrick will be a big time player in the future.

i really think HBK should give it away.
hes retired a couple of times and made so many returns it sorta gets a bit old. in 97 the imfamous "HBK lost his smile" where he retired and surrendered the title to vince.
after wrestlemania XIV he didnt wrestle again until 4 years later when he made a return via the nWo when kevin nash introduced him.

time for shawn micheals to hang up his boots.

Why?? Theres no doubt in my mind HBK can still produce some of the most entertaining matches you'll see, as he has done so many times in the past. Same with the Undertaker. What about Rick Flair and Hulk Hogan? Those guys were well over 50 years old and could still put bums on seats. The day HBK retires will be the day he can no longer physically compete with the young superstars.

Agreed!

There is no way HBK will give it away just yet. He has to much to offer to the sport and he has too much passion to let it go.

It makes me chuckle when people say "the E should go back to old school days like with Angle, Rock, Austin, DX".... the Attitude era, as great as it was, is not old school. 2yrs ago isn't old school... try 2 decades ago. Its sad that a lot of fans today won't watch matches from the 80s and early 90s because they don't have the sick bumps or the crazy high flyers etc.
How I miss Earthquake. He was an agile big man heel.
The greatest stable of all, the Heenan Family, were phenomenal. Bobby Heenan took guys that had no chance (Hercules) and made them into something!
I may gave to do the same thing and take the nostalgic trip too. Have watched wrestling since I was 5yrs old...for 20yrs now... all different types from bloody brawls, to mat classics, to the most crazy insane highflying you'll ever see, and even the ultraviolent lighttubes-to-the-crotch, weedwhacker-to-the-stomach backyard stuff.
Definitely will have to pull out that classic from SS90... maybe pull out SS91 for the Bret Hart v Curt Henning masterpiece. One other match that I will put up there as one of the greatest of that period, and still in the now, was the retirement match of Warrior v Savage at WM7. I was never a fan of the Warrior, and was so-so on Savage at best but this was a 25+ minute epic. Well worth checking out.
It got me thinking of my top 5 matches I've seen from then.
1985-1990
1 - Hart Foundation v Demolition - 2/3 falls - Summerslam 90
2 - Savage v Steamboat - WM3
3 - Hart Foundation v Demolition - Summerslam 88
4 - The Dream Team (Dusty Rhodes, Koko B Ware, Jim Neidhart, Bret Hart) v The Million Dollar Team (Ted Dibiase, Honky Tonk Man, Greg Valentine, ???) - Survivor Series 90 - This was the birth of one of the greatest wrestlers alive today... the ??? was the debut of the Undertaker!!
5 - Hart Foundation v LOD - WWF Superstars(?) 1990.
1991-1995
1 - Warrior v Savage - WM7
2 - Bret Hart v Shawn Michaels - the first ever Ladder Match in the WWE - 1992
3 - Roddy Piper v Bret Hart - WM8
4 - Shawn Michaels v Marty Janetty - Raw 1993
5 - 3way tie - Bret Hart v 1-2-3 Kid - Raw 1994
- Bret Hart v Bob Backlund - I Quit Match - Survivor Series 1994
- Bret Hart v Diesel - Survivor Series 1995
All matches in the "Forgotten Years" that are worth checking out
Oh and of course the 50 minute classic between Bret Hart v Steve Austin @ WM13. Austin became a face and Hart a heel in this match. The only bad thing was Ken Shamrock as referee.

Must agree Luke this was the time i most enjoyed the WWF/WWE brand.

Also pretty sure i burst into tears when Michaels kicked Janetty through the pain glass window.

Natural Disasters aka (Earthquake & Thyphoon) are still the best true Big Men tag team.

The split up of the Rockers was, and still is, the greatest break-up angle the E has ever done. For that time it was shocking. No one would've thought Michaels would ended up putting Jannetty through the window.

As for Unforgiven, having 3 scramble matches was a little overkill. As sad as I am to see Punk's reign over, I loved the finish to the Raw scramble. I don't know if I'm happy that Jericho is champ, or just more happy that Batista isn't!

Hulk hogan? when he returned in 2003 he really showed his age.
flair was just an all natural, who spent alot of time making other guys look really good.
undertakers knee is not soo good. and is why he stopped doing his tombstone as a finisher years ago and did a powerbomb "the last ride" also that chokehold became popular.

So did Rick Flair but I still think they both did a great job of entertaining us. Even as oldies they made us seat on the edge of our seats nearly every time they came out to the ring. Shawn Michaels will be exactly the same.

Dude, yeah Hulk Hogan showed his age in the ring, but you should know "Hulkamania lives forever"....right. When he returned did he or did he not compete in one of the most popular wrestlemania matches ever against The Rock at WM18?? Did you see that match? Not bad for an ol' fella. And as far as Taker's knee goes, he's walked with a limp for the last 10 years, yet recently competed in a TLC match AND a Hell in a Cell match. Not bad for an ol' fella with a dodgy knee
