The final event on the Total Bowling Wide Bay Touring Circuit, The Charlie Greyson Memorial Open, has been completed with some memorable bowling.
In the morning squad it was Brendan Meads, Phillip Fagg and young local Zack Caldwell who set the early tempo, before Brandon Qualischefski found the grove to shot a 290 game, followed by great 279-279 block. His momentum continued on through qualifying, and he led the consistent Fagg by 71. They averaged 236 and 230 respectively. Meads closed out in third, a further 185 pins back.
The afternoon squad was dominated by George Frilingos. Averaging 244, including a 290 of his own, he completed qualifying 97 ahead of Qualischefski. Morty Douglass also scored well, averaging 227 to finish 33 behind Fagg and take fourth spot from Meads.
Day 2 began with a top 20, stage 2, 4 game bonus round. With 72 points awarded for the highest game, big scores were a premium. Cashing in were Meads (245 average), Shayne Melton (246 average) and Caldwell (244 average). Averaging 239, Frinlingos conitued to put the scores on the board. He held down first by 114 from Douglass who averaged 238 to move up to second. Qualischefski dropped to third, while Meads and Melton filled the top 5.
Matchplay was simply more of the same, with Frilingos averaging 244 for 5 wins and 2 second places to take the title by an astounding 392.5 (Yes that's a half a pin - ask Alex Hopwood). Qualischefski took second, while consintecy all weekend saw Meads take third, pushing Douglass to fourth. Another consitent bowler, Jon King, found his way into the top five. Alicia Melton was the only female to make it to day 2. She finished in 15th place, 8 spots ahead of her stunningly consitent sister Rebekah Meads.
Thanks to John Griffin and all the staff at Sun City bowl, with a special mention to Alex who runs around stressing after us all weekend. The Charlie Geryson Memorial Open has been moved ahead one week on the calendar to 17th and 18th of November next year.
