Hi Chris, Hi all, just woke up from my sleep after returning from Manila, matey you wrote -"Just my humble opinion but it should be considered that the tough conditions suffered by everyone at Nationals may well have contributed to these excellent results, nothing like struggling on hard conditions (Home) to make you appreciated a good pattern, If I remember correctly before Japan we had a strike fest for Nationals and we only came back from there with two or three medals.

We have seen eye to eye on most things but unfortunately I think you have this one wrong, there was a massive difference between Japan and Manila, where I would suggest the TBA pattern DID NOT seem to help in either case.
In Japan the Japanese put in so many quality teams and bowlers, as the host nation could it showed just how important senior bowling is to them and the lengths they go to for success, in Manila the Japanese didnt have such a large contingent but still had some quality bowlers where they and the Koreans simply were always strong.
The big difference was we also had a quality team of bowers including the likes of Jeanette, Rob, Brenton, with the coming of age of Frank, Lawrie, Mike, Bob, Garry, Freig, Robyn, Brenda, Barbara, Suzanne, and good support from the rest, we actually went away and worked as a team, in Japan it didnt have the quality of experience and information to be shared as it did in Manila, coupled with this recipe, success was there for the taking with some hard work and I'll tell you the hard work was done.
The patterns we bowled at Mt Gravatt did little for the bowlers as it was too close to when we went away, the quality had already been shown in other tournaments with decent conditions previously, so the best TBA could and should have done was set down the Manila pattern to help us select the correct equipment, and get our mindset ready for what we were confronted with in Manila, with this we probably would have done better, as it was a fast learning curve for us to get up to speed with what the other nations already knew, they had the correct equipment, had been bowling on this pattern for a little while and where ready.
The second part of your post supports what I have just said, because didnt the championship pattern get your mind ready for the Masters pattern ...or should they also have been the same pattern ...hhmmm seems very similar to what you previously supported my good friend .....
I think Brenton now understands what we as seniors have been talking for a while about conditions, I would like to hear his thoughts as he had to use the conditions to score not as he normally has done and gone around them using 3 or 4 board I am sure he sees a lot of us in a very different light and am glad he was part of our team, on a personal note I would like to give my appreciation to Jeanette for the motiviation and support she gave our girls, Robyn, Suzanne, Julie, Brenda, Babara for being the girls "engine" room to maintain momentum. For the Guys Brenton for being well...lets just say the new Brenton, supportive, motivational and an inspiration to the lesser talented, Rob for his knowledge, and the rest of us guys who went along for the ride and did something special at times when inspiration was needed someone stood up...I had a great time and am thankful it was with you lot..hopefully we'll be together better and stronger next time where I am sure the success will be greater.......A special thanks to all the support staff we had, managers, supporters, friends, partners ... they all made the success a reality.....The only downer was no TBA board member there to see what it is all about and connect with the largest population base of TBA...seniors..I would have subsidised a member to come along and see what we need to do for next time and the further development of the seniors ... doesnt matter our tournament numbers speak for themselves....onya guys...Aussie Aussie Aussie.....

I loved being a part of the team, in nfact I would prefer to bowl in a teams environment than an individual one any day of the week. My feelings on the condition are not much different to what they were before we went away, but it was what we had to play on, so I adjusted accordingly. I let some major opportunities slip due to a lesser level of discipline than that shown by the Japanese and Koreans. Trust me when I say I will learn from that. Obviously the japanese and Koreans receive a far higher level of support than we do and, as such, are expected to perform at that type of level. I also noticed that none of them were overweight and all had excellent techniques that allowed them to maximize their potential on that condition. We could all learn from them.

By the same token, I agree that the team should have been prepared ON THAT CONDITION! However, having taken a straw poll of other team members in the lead up, none of us believed they would actually piut that pattern down and even after officuial practice their was considerable skeptism among the team that would be retained throughout the tournament. My personal opinion is that the pattern needed to be a bit harder, but not ridiculous.

My attitude when away was no different than any other time I have been away in the team environment. I admit that I am a different person in individual competition. Elitist? Yes and I make no apologies for that. However, all I can say is that I hope to make the next team and put up an improved showing and I enjoyed the experience immensely. bring on 2011
