Morty Douglass.....is he through?

Bowling Tragic
What happened? Morty averaged a paltry 191 in the Rachuig Competition with only one 200 game out of ten games bowled...It certainly wasn't due to the scoring condition. anyone have an insight into why happened to this great bowler?

The only insight I could offer is that Morty's bowling is extremely curtailed these days. Given the amount of games I am aware that he bowls it was an amazing effort just to qualify for the team.

Whether there was an injury or alike I do not know, but what I do know is that Morty would definately not be finished as the talent and ability is certainly there it would just be a case of if the commitment was also there.

Why would u ask a question like that maybe he has just had a bad week.
Not everybody can average 200 plus everytime they walk onto the lanes

I'm afraid it might have been due to something more serious than just 'a bad week'
A bowler with Morty's skills doesn't score 20 pins per game under the field average JUST because of an 'off week'
I'm simply asking what happened..not trying to bag Morty.

Mr Chester, the subject "Morty Douglass......is he through?" sounds like a bag to me. If you weren't intending to bag Morty then perhaps a more appropriate subject heading could have been used. But then of course everything you write on this forum is generally a bag of someone or something so it is pretty safe to assume that was your intention.....

to me it sounds like he is asking why a great bowler could not average 200 on what looks like a high scoring pattern.. and the words great bolwer sounds like hes not paying him out

Far from it Wayne. It was a case of one of those weeks. His leadership was outstanding and it was an honour to bowl with him.

I think your post is a little out of line Wayne, I think questions like this are best directed at the person involved through a private message. As for Morty, he is one of the best Rachuig bowlers this country has ever seen, period.

There is more to Rachuig than just scores and Morty's leadership, experience and focus of the team sometimes counts for alot more than winning his individual matches.

The one and only time I captained my team I was constantly asking myself "What would Morty do", yes I added my own greek flair to the captaincy but in all the other years of bowling Rachuig Morty has kept the team focused when we were down and out.

He is a great bowler, and whilst he doesn't bowl that much anymore I'd still have him in my 5 man line up. I don't think he is through but its got nothing to do with us, its his decision. Either way, I'm sure he would be an asset to any team he bowled in.

Thank you to both Carl and Tony. I understand the situation a little better now.

In todays scoring environment shooting 20-30 pins under your average isn't that hard to do on an off week. Morty's a great player and a great leader, irrelevant of his scores.

I bowl with Morty and see what he does when it comes to bowling. I owe alot to Morty Douglass. I wouldn't know half as much about bowling if he didn't help me. He is a mentor and a great team leader. He does have alot of work committments. Word is he is trying out for the Kingaroy Assoc. Challenge Team next year and I really hope he makes it for not only he's bowling but for his coaching and experience.
