AMAZING......
Jason Walsh, Ballina NSW and Brandon Qualischefski, Sunshine coast QLD. Displayed not only talent and skill, but a what Aussies are truly made of. With a game to go, the 2 men were 450 short of leading the day and setting up a possible GOLD medal. Not only did they have that challange to pass, they were trying to hold off charges from Denmark and Thailand.
After some KIBOSHING pocket hits the boys set themselves to having only needing to close the 10th each to lead the day in the first event of the world championships, the doubles event.
Walsh smahsed the pocket and left the 8 pin a flush as it could of ever been, making the spare he left his doubles partner under a slight bit of pressure.
Qualla took his routine deep breathe, let the ball go as pure as you like, hit perfectly in the pocket, not once, but all 3 times in the 10th to set up his country a possible gold in the championships starting event.
Early on, Walsh was relentless. Never miss the pocket in the first game, but struggling to strike on the even lane for a 210. From there it was only getting better and better for Walsh. Each shot clean and with perfect balance. Walsh finished on 1426 for his 6 games. A true captians knock.
Qualla might not of been striking as much as his compatroit but he brought his spilt conversion shoes to the lanes. Opening only 1 frame (which happen to be a 8-10 from a pocket shot) Brandon spared a number of combination spares including the 6-7-10, the 4-7-10 the 4-9 and 1-2-4-10 twice.
Together the pair finished the day on top, leading Finland and hot favourites by 33 pins.
Australia is proud of the boys, we are proud of the boys and i know that coach barry Walsh (jason's father) and Warren Qualischefski (brando's father) are the 2 most proud and happiest dad's in the world.
