Is bowling a sport or a game?

You could argue that all sports are games. A game of cricket. A game of football etc.

Poker has a massive amount of exposure, sponsorship, etc and is shown on sports channels, does that mean Poker is a sport?

This could go on forever.

I would almost say poker is a sport...

And when things get serious, in any sport, the term match starts getting thrown around.

GAME - A competitive one played according to the rules and decided by skill, strength, or luck.
SPORT – a game or competitive activity especially an outdoor one involving physical exertion. Eg cricket, football, racing and hunting
Therefore a sport is a game played in accordance to the rules of play
We all play a game of Tennis; a round of Golf; a game of Squash; Shooting is always known as Shooting (but still a sport)
I think if an individual does it, such as running, swimming etc, they compete against the clock it’s referred to as a sport, But collectively running swimming etc can be classified as games such as in the Olympics
But is Ballroom dancing a sport
The sport of Kings – but they only bet on the outcome, but not race them selves.

Can I suggest something here..

Why the hell does it matter anyway?

You get people interested, you get the sponsorship dollars, you get that sponsor exposure, through TV.

It doesn't matter if it's a game, sport, recreation, or punishment - the aim is to get people interested. Generate more interest and get it back on TV.

Then we'll see some advancement. It would be great to get bowling into the olympics, but I think we need to start acting locally first, and get our major tournaments on TELEVISION.

The thing that matters is public exposure, NOT how we classify ourselves.

The public perception of Tenpin bowling is of paramount importance if you want media exposure.....................what do you expect the general public perception of Tenpin bowling is when the only T.V coverage is those childish animated TV advertisments at school holiday times.
