Going from right handed to left

I been having trouble with my right knee for years, It starts aching after about a game and because of the pain I don't have a consistant knee bend. After about 3 games I find it to hard to block the pain out so 4 games series are a no no for me.

I am thinking of learning to bowl left handed, and was wondering whether or not you guys would think it is possible to become a good player doing this.

I know a couple of people that did this, can't mention names. Similar to you the reason was due to injury. If you really put your mind to it and put in the time, you will be able to get to the same level or even better when you were bowling right handed.

thats what i was thinking as well
your right knee would be under more strain
and i think your delivery would be more inconsistant
i do know that when i was younger
there was a young fella paul woodward broke his arm then had to learn to bowl left handed and did it very well

sorry, it is my left knee that is hurting. the pain starts to moves up through my thigh, and is a very sharp pain. It causes me to straighten my knee to soon in my delivery. I have seen doctors about it but they can't find anyreason for it.

What happens is as I'm delivering the ball the pain casues me to straighten my left knee and throw the ball right of my target line. Some nights I can block out the pain and string strikes, but the norm is I miss easy spares and through gutter balls after a string of strikes.

Quite frankly I would suggest that you should seek advice from another doctor regarding your injury rather than seeking advice here regarding your bowling.

Your injury should take precidence. You can fix your bowling later.

Good luck.

Get a qualified coach to have a look at how you bowl. Poor technique, especially footwork, can put a huge strain on the sliding knee. Does the pain happen in any other activity, eg walking up stairs?

Agree with above 2 posts.

Your profile says you are 8 years old!!! You're going to be in bigger trouble later in life me boy if you are what you say.:)

I'll be kind to you and suggest, as an interim measure, you get hold of a can of my "secret" pain killer - Leuko Pain Relief Spray. Try it and keep us posted on how it works on you. But see a specialist (orthopaedic) about your condition AND have a qualified coach look over your style as Robbie suggests.

(I realise that I shouldn't post my old age pain cure-alls here: might give my ATBSO peers an advantage:-$)

Something not quite right in your profile, I have never met an 8 year old taxi driver!
Please take this advice from one who knows, I had knee surgery 3 months ago and now back bowling.
First thing to do: Pick up the phone and make appointment with your GP, when you see him, ask for referral to Orthopaedic Surgeon. Dont put it off any longer. If you continue to bowl or put any more strain on that knee you are going to do damage to the other knee. Double Trouble!! If you dont have private medical insurance you are most likely going to wait a very long time for the consult unfortunatelyl if you do have medical insurance I suggest you visit the Sports Medicine Clinic at Brisbane Private Hospital as they understand the mechanics of our sport and will advise you accordingly.
The pain you have described is just the same as I had, you honesly cannot put up with that and bowl properly, left handed, or right handed. I kept putting off the surgery option as I was convinced I would not be able to bowl ever again, but I am pleased to say that was not the case. There are so many options available now, its not necessarily going to mean a complete knee replacement. I had a partial knee replacement, was only in hospital one night, walking the next day on crutches, off the crutches in one week, and able to go to work, and walk, and swim, within 3 weeks.
If you continue to bowl, take pain killers, and do nothing about your problem, your life will be really miserable, and frustrating, and I think you would probably give up bowling. I very nearly did.
Do yourself a favour....put down the bowling ball and get that knee fixed pronto!! Then you can get your life back on track and enjoy your bowling.

I was hoping to join the junoir bowling leagues, and give myself a change of winning. But The fact I drive cabs blew that one away. So I just fixed up my profile.

Went and saw a coach today, I asked him about the knee pain, and we worked on using less knee bend and keeping the weight even between both feet. I went to the doctor and showed him x rays, and he is going to refer me to a pysio.

i know this thread may be old, but as people have said have a look at your final stages in your delivery, where u slide. some nights when i am not sliding right and come to a sudden hault this repeative stopping sends pains through my left thigh so this may be were your problem may lie, just a suggestion
