Something not quite right in your profile, I have never met an 8 year old taxi driver!
Please take this advice from one who knows, I had knee surgery 3 months ago and now back bowling.
First thing to do: Pick up the phone and make appointment with your GP, when you see him, ask for referral to Orthopaedic Surgeon. Dont put it off any longer. If you continue to bowl or put any more strain on that knee you are going to do damage to the other knee. Double Trouble!! If you dont have private medical insurance you are most likely going to wait a very long time for the consult unfortunatelyl if you do have medical insurance I suggest you visit the Sports Medicine Clinic at Brisbane Private Hospital as they understand the mechanics of our sport and will advise you accordingly.
The pain you have described is just the same as I had, you honesly cannot put up with that and bowl properly, left handed, or right handed. I kept putting off the surgery option as I was convinced I would not be able to bowl ever again, but I am pleased to say that was not the case. There are so many options available now, its not necessarily going to mean a complete knee replacement. I had a partial knee replacement, was only in hospital one night, walking the next day on crutches, off the crutches in one week, and able to go to work, and walk, and swim, within 3 weeks.
If you continue to bowl, take pain killers, and do nothing about your problem, your life will be really miserable, and frustrating, and I think you would probably give up bowling. I very nearly did.
Do yourself a favour....put down the bowling ball and get that knee fixed pronto!! Then you can get your life back on track and enjoy your bowling.
