Frankston Cup

Here is the entry form for the Frankston Cup.

Qualifying starts this Saturday the 29th April and goes through to the 27th May, qualifying at anytime lanes are available.

After a discussion at the Sunshine Cup, most bowlers were happy with the format which all felt was fine for a state based tournament. They all agreed to have a slight format change, qualifying will determine the top 14 positions, and now include a Desperado Squad on the morning of the final for the last two spots.

This allows the bowlers that did not qualify another last chance to make it, by having a shootout for the last two spots for a cost of $25.00!!

While I have given everyone a prizefund based on 200 attempts, this is just a guide and will be adjusted according to how many entries are recieved.

On another note since I last looked at this website, there have been a number of comments regarding various formats, different prizefunds, too many tournaments, not enough sponsors etc.

Frankly speaking, you all need to remember that tournament bowling is to benefit you the bowlers and not necessarily the centres.

It provides a way of showing everyone how good you have been developing all those skills in practice, and see as to whether you have the mental toughness to win a tournament!!

I personally would like to see a tournament organisation start up again, but not necessarily just for the scratch bowler, because there is not enough of them to justify a group of their own, even though there are around 100 190+ average bowlers out there, but one that encompasses all bowlers, including, men, women, juniors and youth, and not seniors because they have there own.

This tournament group will provide:
1. A committee of people prepared to go out and seek sponsors, and run each event.
2. Fair, honest and challenging events on a regular basis, maybe four a year. 3. Shirts that give the bowlers a sense of identity.
4. A friendly atmosphere where bowlers are encouraged to socialise.
5. Travel to different venues
6. A committee that will have time to seek out new bowlers, and have the ability to market to them.

These are just some suggestions, maybe the twenty or so of you that read this stuff can discuss this more.

I will see you at Frankston!!

Regards,
Patrick Birtig

Hopefully a few more entries will be made over the next couple of weeks, to ensure a healthy prizefund is on offer.

Have not seen any entry forms in the bowls that l have been in over the past weeks, which is sad, as that means it is only being seen on here, and not al bowlers are on here......

Personally, will try my best to get down to Frankston over the next couple of weeks at some point for an attempt at this event.

Going down today at 4pm. I have 2 lanes booked. Have 2 people, if some one else wants to join no probelms.

Frosty,

Qualifying Times:

Qualifying is available anytime within 4 weeks before match play final.
Bookings are advisable with centre.

Centres have the right to schedule special times for qualifying during the four weeks of qualifying.

Bowlers are advised that lanes will not necessarily be conditioned specially for the each qualifying attempt, and are advised to check with centre before arriving.

Qualifying closes the evening before the final for the top 14, check with centre for closing times.

Format – Qualifying:

All bowlers are required to bowl with another qualifier, with no single entries allowed.

This is a scratch event, and each bowler will bowl 5 games only in each attempt. or qualifying with their highest 5 games

To receive the 8 pins bonus, bowlers must be able to have a verified league average of 189 or less for more than 48 games, all averages will be checked and the tournament director has the right to re-average any bowler before the finals.

The top 14 bowlers at the end of qualifying plus 2 bowlers from the * Desperado Squad will contest the final.

* Desperado Squad – This squad will bowl the morning of the final, with each participant bowling one game only. The top two scores will make up the remaining finalists. To be eligible for this squad, you would have already had a qualifying attempt. Cost for the Desperado Squad is $25.00.
