Do you aim at arrows or pins?

Where do you aim when bowling?

I don't what area it is I look at but it's about the top of where the reflection of the pins are on the deck.

So I would say it's the  breakpoint?

Then when I can't seem to constantly hit that spot I try and find a mark, different coloured board or anything unusual about half way down the lane but on my line to aim for !

:frusty2: Maybe that's why I can't get my average up over 160 or bowl consistently

when i first started bowling i looked at the pins now i look at the dots on the approch towards the foul line and on the lane to aim for that perfect line
your not the only one sampson1791 i'm trying to get out of this habit of bowling unconsistently and bowl better and my average is at 121 hoping to be at 130 average by the end of this year

I used to look at 3 areas on the lane when I was setting up on the approch.Where the was ball was going to leave my hand, where it started to pick up its roll and then hopefully where it was going to hook to the pocket. By the time the ball left my hand my head was looking down about 6-7 inches past the fowl line. As long as my left foot was 1 board left or right of where I started on the approach I knew it was close to the pocket.Earl Anthony did the same. I knew I taught him something.
Lovey

This is very similar to me. I look at the arrows until my release, then look down to see the roll on the ball. Most of the time, I couldn't tell if I hit my target or not...

When I'm on the approach, I look at the arrow i want to go over and then focus on the dots at the foul line for my first shot. Spares i look at the pin/s and basically draw a line in my head from approach to pin and shoot. If that makes sense.

I changed to playing off the dots when i was young, i had a hard time hitting the arrows consistantly. Now however i have changed to play off the 7 board. I used to play off the 8 board (3rd dot) but my lane conditions have changed (different oil)

You can if you know the curve...

so you look at something you want to eventually hit whilst trying to imagine that you have put it over a mark that your not looking at because you know the curve of the ball...mmmm might work but sounds a bit ndifficult for the likes of me:confused:

It does sound weird now I think about it... but it has worked for me over ten years... as I said, I am trying to change my style atm... that's why I asked how others bowl...

i look at both. which is a bad thing but i am trying to change it at the moment. its very hard as when i do i pull up on my shot

It depends on the lane conditon really and how you bowl. It's not the 70's anymore and the lane conditions are very different. Whatever your better at or most comfortable with is probably the way you to go.
Interesting though when yoru bowling well it doesn't seem to matter.

Used to be arrows, now dots. Easier target. If i threw it aimin straight at the pins, there's no tellin where my ball would go, lol.

I have a similar aim to Brian Himmler. I look at the arrow right until I realease the ball and look down at the last second, which I find gives me some lift on my release but doesn't really affect my accuracy. On spares I watch the ball roll over the target because I don't want to lift it on spares.

Also if the condition means that I have to play straight, then I focus on the target all the way.

That's my method and it works for me.

Aim at the dots between the foul line and arrows. I used to aim for the arrows but found myself lofting the ball and the dots are easier to see now that our lanes have changed and more light reflections off the boards further down the lanes.

i generally aim at 2nd arrow however if i find my balls coming back to early i look about half to 3 quarters down the lane.. it seems that i get more of an extension on my arm and the ball holds out a little bit longer.

Arrows , What Arrows ???

There use to be arrows out there once for me, But they have faded away for me since I turned 40.
And I'm certainly not going to start wearing glass out there now.
Already look like a dork out there as it is.!

I can still see those sometimes shiny things standing down the other end.

Cheers

Wearing glasses means you're a dork ?

Wearing glasses means you're a dork ?

I said I already look like a dork out there Graham, and I don't need any more help. If I am saying adding glasses to me making look more like one then that is referring to me only for one who has never worn glasses while bowling, try not to read into please, Everyone else I'm sure looks fantastic!

Cheers
