Country Cup All Star Team Of All Time

David,

All stars were introduced in the second year of Country Cup (1982). They were entered as Country All Stars in the state championships from 1983 until about 1990. (Since then they have been awarded shirts)

I know a couple of Colac guys bowled in this team and were looking forward to bowling in a team with some of the greats. Unfortunately some bowlers took the event seriously others didn't really give a toss. Not sure if this is why it was dropped or not but wasn't as good an idea in practice as it was in theory.

Others may have different opinions / memories on the matter.

As for best teams of all times -- definitely NOT Morwell Men in 2006 :p

Back to the topic.
Or atleast a variation on the topic.
Best Team (on any given year).

Have to agree with you their Gatsby - although it would have been great to pull it off - Albury with a number of young kids/first timers deserve that title in 2006.

There have been some dominant performances looking back -
2003 (Colac) - Colac men - nearly same side every year but that year at home they were a step above everyone else and who can forget that protest with a couple of games to go.

2000 (Mildura) and 2005 (Geelong) - Geelong Men - both years were runaway winners but espicially in 2005 when they only had 6 team members and 5 of them bowled 96.3% of the games

Being abit biased here but Morwell Men - 1999 (Albury) being told that it was worst team that we had ever sent away and coming home with the goods - Their were more than a few people with egg on their face that year

But I could not go past our 2004 team at home - first year as captain and we had some bowlers really step up that year both forming and being dragged along by the team spirit to bowl well above their normal abilities. It was a true team effort and to bowl at home in front of our vocal supporters it does not really get any better than that.

Best Match ever - there are a few for a number of reasons but our game against Warrnambool at Sale would easily be the best match that I have been involved in - Both teams known for their ultra aggressive approach to the game and bringing it to this game whilst having the upmost respect to the other team.

I think you are getting your years muddled up -- 2007 was actually albury winning at Sale with "the kids"

We certainly haven't :D

Also being biased, Colac's best win in the Men would have to be 1985. In 1984 Colac streeted the Men's field to win by 15.5 points. The following year was in Geelong and the home team consisted of Mike Kennedy, Russell Smith, Len Hogg, Steve Bell, Peter Rus, Ray Taylor and Gordon Robinson. Geelong were considered almost unbeatable at home, yet Colac went back to back winning by 7.5 points.

Colac's team that year -- David Whitham, Merv Billing, Neil Thompson, Ian Poysor, Bob Smith & Brian Hickey (pretty much the same team that won 18 years later in 2003).

I didnt have any egg, I still stand by the fact I was one of the people saying it was the worst team Morwell has sent away, horses for course's!

I agree about the 2004 side, to beat Geelong, twice, and take the title with a couple of guys averaging 15 pins above their usual average was great, along with a couple of guys leading out in front was the best TEAM i have ever been involved with!

David to do with the All Star Team not only could the bowl State championships wouldnt it be nice to see them have a Vic Country team at Rachuig. Probly would never happen but i suppose you never say never.

Deano.

Must agree Deano, and as you say, never say never.
Its one thing to get entry into state champs or a Rachuig Nomination paid (or similar) but then its the financial and time/family commitments to actually going further. Like everything, its the logistics of getting the relevant people in one spot thats the challenge - these days we're all so busy!

When you think about it, CCup is a great pre-cursor for Rachuig as a team event. Wouldnt it be nice if Vicpins extended an invtitation to Top 12 averages from CCup to compete in Rachuig?
I know I'm not the first to suggest it, but all the talk of CCup all stars sort of brings ideas to the surface again.

This sort of conversation just might spawn some good ideas again.

My blown knees are possibly a result of the before mentioned xtra curricular activities I may have participated in during my adolecent years?

:angel2::beerchug::whistling:

I know why you have blown knees. No need to explain though hey motta. Everyone knows now that with blown knees like that you must be the giver. So does that make you the receiver Woza? You guys are a little different down that way.
