cleaning balls during league or tournament

Can anyone help with a ruling on cleaning your balls thru a league or tournament.that is with ball cleaner fluid. Some say you can some so no. which is it ?

You can't apply anything but a clean cloth in a continuous session of games.

League is generally one continuous session. In a tournament, you can clean them (with approved fluids only) every lane change or change of opponent.

From what I understand, you can do whatever you want to the ball in between games, but as soon as you start a game you cannot change the surface of it whatsoever. If you do change the surface, then you cannot use that ball for the remainder of the game.

Edit: Oh it's a 'block' of games?

RULE 601

Cleaning
Cleaners may be used to clean the surface of the ball before or after a session of play, provided:
1. They do not affect the hardness of the ball.
2. They are totally removed from the surface of the ball before delivery of the ball.
3. They are not used during a series or session of continuous games.
Any ball that does not conform to any of these provisions may not be used in TBA Accredited competition.

RULE 602 BALL SURFACES ALTERATIONS
Altering the surface of a bowling ball by the application of any substance, liquid or abrasive, including the use a
recognised ball cleaning or polishing machine during a series or session of continuous games is prohibited. A ball may
be wiped with a clean cloth or towel at any time.

RULE 128 SESSION OF GAMES - DEFINITION
A session of continuous games play concludes when a participant changes lanes or opponents. For example,
in scenarios 1 and 2, the session of games concludes when a match concludes. In scenario 3, each lane
change begins a new session.
1. 15 game in a singles matchplay final changing lanes every match.
2. A number of five man teams playing each other once, changing lanes every match.
3. A number of five man teams playing a match based on total pinfall over six games, bowled in blocks of
2, changing lanes after each 2 games.

I need to adjust my notes and thoughts re 'series or session of continuous games' as outlined in rule 128. During tournaments I have ruled 15 game matchplay as series of games - and have had direction from more experienced tournament directors about this.

I remember the TBA was talking about a Tournament Managers Course - would appreciate opportunity to improve.

Don't feel bad Leanne, that change was pretty quiet and only happened this last year or so. Hm, maybe it was last year - in any case the rule book does change without warning mid-season!
