Organisational Update: For immediate distribution to State Managers, TBA Centres and the TBA Community.
Subject: Cancellation of Women’s World Championships 2009 and associated Congress meetings.
To: State Managers, Proprietors and Centre Managers and TBA Bowlers
From: TBA CEO
Good Afternoon,
As you may already be aware, following discussion with the key stakeholders and careful consideration by the Tenpin Australia Limited Board regarding the feasibility of hosting the 2009 Women’s World Championships, it has been decided that it is in the best interests of Tenpin Bowling Australia Limited to withdraw our offer to host this significant event at this time.
While it is easy to focus on the positive benefits of hosting an international event of this nature, such as creation of opportunities for media exposure of the sport and excellent sponsorship and partnership opportunities, a responsible Board must consider all of the facts available to it in order to make the best decision for the Sport and of Tenpin Bowling Australia Limited.
Although considerable work has been done by the former CEO, Rob Zikman and Karen Cooke in raising funds to support the event, when you consider that the total cost of underwriting the event as advised by the WTBA was in excess of $295,000.00 US Dollars and the Sponsorship raised to date was a projected $80,000.00, Australian dollars, it is obvious that there is a considerable shortfall, which it was anticipated would not be covered by participant and delegate contributions. As Tenpin Bowling Australia Limited does not have financial reserves to cover such a shortfall, there was no option but to withdraw Australia’s interest in hosting this event in 2009.
I hope this clarifies the Boards decision and clears up any misunderstanding regarding Australia’s withdrawal from the event.
Sincerely
Gillian Thompson-Rogers
