I'm well aware, and some of these young kids are pretty damn good. All the Youth level bowlers can't compete for money, only for SMART money, for some of the guys I bowled with, this added up to quite a lot over time. Maybe I was lucky enough to be at WSU with some of the kids who had done really well through their younger years, but between their SMART accounts and the scholarships from the school as well, most of them were doing ok.
I don't think WSU fee's were that high TBH, even including the accommodation costs, and maybe that played a part in how I perceived it. Also, the local bowlers got it at a massively discounted rate, which probably helped as well.
