Hi All

Well, the Joondalup Cup is over for another year. This year saw (in my opinion) the strongest matchplay field in a TBA ranked Event in the past few years.

But what i would like to know is, what went well? What didn't go so well? Was the format right? What did people think of the random ball checks?

Please tell me what you thought of the event...................ill kick it off:

1 - Random Ball Checks - This was something i learnt about in the USA last year. I think this was a great idea personally, as im sure a few people can tell you, i think at least 3 or 4 balls went into the shop to have a hole put in them prior to play, and several more checked to make sure they were legal. This for me was an eye opener to the bowlers to make them (and hopefully their ball drillers) aware that there are parameters that must be met when bowling in official competition.

2 - Qualifying Cut - I think top 14 is the right number. As anyone who bowled on sunday will tell you, 13 games was alot, and a fair struggle with the pattern breaking down very quickly.

3 - One idea that i have floated around with some people behind the scenes is the option of a "Lay-By" entry fee. Give the bowlers the option to pay off their entry over the next 12 months so that $275 doesnt seem as daunting come tournament time.

Im interested to hear your opinions......... aaaaaand GO!

I think the lay-by of the entry fee is a good idea.

I was surprised to hear that balls were checked & bowlers had to register the equipment they used, I've not seen it at any of the other ranked events I've bowled over the years. I think it's a good thing.

Random balls checks are good, ensures we are all on the same playing field. Lay-bys are also good, especially for locals. 14 is a good number for the finals, early start is good to allowing interstaters to catch the 4.00pm services. Pretty much a perfectly run tournament this year, dont change anything.
