2010 TBA Membership Products and Pricing

I had read (skimmed over) it.

I may be reading it wrong, though, does this:
In 2010, accredited leagues will be abolished with our Proprietor partners taking on the responsibility for ensuring that all competition play within their Centers operates in accordance with TBA Rules and Regulations.

and

Join TBA in a Registered TBA Centre before the 31st of January 2010 to receive a complimentary entry into the draw to win a $1000 travel voucher

mean it is going back to the ATBC way of things and the centre's are responsible for managing (and/or collecting fees) who has and hasn't affiliated with the TBA??

I remember back as a social Junior and paying a MANDATORY fee to the centre before the end of the first three weeks of league play. It just seemed "the normal thing to do", everyone payed back then.

I personally believe this is where we need to go back too, if you bowl a league, social or not you pay the fee (obviously only once, if you bowl multiple leagues you pay for one only, as is the case now)! Simple!

I know that we have some saying that if we make it mandatory we will lose some social bowlers, but if I remember correctly (I know it was some time ago now, back late 80's - early 90's), we did not have that issue. In fact I am pretty sure we had more bowlers back then than we do now. Hmmm.

Hmmm ddint see anything about having to fill out a form to get ranking points, really hoping thats been fixed. The 80's wern't too bad at all, funny about that :p

Fitzy - just for the record - the "ATBC" way [at least during my time there] of collecting fees was usually via centre delegates of the local area Association. Now of course, just as you say, there were some centres who undertook the process for and on behalf of the local Association/ATBC - which was always a good thing because as you note the centre was able [if they wanted] to make membership a mandatory part of league play.

so how is that different from this year? the local associations collected the monies anyways! also with regards to the form for ranking points, i completed it 3 years ago and am still waiting to be listed. i gave up on it.a total waste of time.

It is different, in my opinion, as collection of fee's cannot be enforced as the system is currently.

At my centre (back then) it was the centre that collected, not the Association (as a junior social league bowler, I wouldn't have even known one existed). I was under the impression that if the ATBC fee was not paid then you did not bowl after week three. As I always paid anyways (and was happy too, as I have every year since my return), I am not sure how 'strict' that rule was enforced. Being such, I believe only the centre can 'enforce' this payment.

As it is today with the local association collecting, I can't see how affiliation can be enforced. Just too difficult without the centres support! Besides the Associations have enough to do than to be affiliation police.

I look around at the leagues today and honestly would be surprised if 50%-60% are current TBA members. Many have stated to me flatly that they choose not to pay and haven't for some time (if ever).

As far as I am concerned if the way the centre run it was not strictly the "ATBC way" then it is a model that the current TBA should look into.

We see many threads (especially in QLD ) that we don't get the best to bowl in certain events. Maybe if fees were mandatory, TBA would have the funds to 'support' bowlers who have the ability to represent these events, within our shorelines and abroad. How many (more) people would attempt to gain entry into an elite team, if they knew finances would not be a restriction??

Again this is only my opnion, many will disagree with me (Hey the majority usually do, I think that is another sport currently ongoing ;)). But for the sport to grow and become, as it should be, a bona fide sport in the public opinion, some 'new/old' avenues need to be looked at.

RE: the entry form. Not good enough for that, so I have never submitted one. So I'll stay out of this one! ;) :D

Not the first time this has been suggested....

It would seem that "Centre Delegates" are a must for ALL Tenpin Bowling establishment and bowlers have a contact in their centre to ask questions relating to Rules & regulations pertaining to Leagues and or events being run in their centre.
Obviously Centre Delegates should be voted on by League bowlers in that centre and not given this position by TBA.:)
