2005 WTBA Asian Schools
This was posted on the TBA webiste this morning:

Monday 13th December, 2004 - Tenpin Bowling Australia tabled a notice of motion at the recent ABF Presidium meeting, in Singapore, to move the location of the 2005 WTBA Asian Schools Championship from Jakarta, Indonesia. Unfortunately, this motion was defeated.

After the recent volatile activities in Jakarta there are severe travel warnings to this part of Asia and accordingly TBA have decided not to send a team to this championship in April 2005.

The roll off, scheduled for February 2005 and in Canberra, to select this team has been cancelled.

its a good idea. Because of the recent attacks, I dont think it would be very safe for the bowlers and management to travel (especially since we are aussies)

Good call TBA

Maybe we should just bury our heads in the sand and wait until world peace is achieved.
Our best bowling coaches don't seem to have been worried about where they went to work (names in red)

by the looks of waynes list, australia is not going ne were for a while, but i still think good decison by the tba, maybe they could revise there decision a little later in the year

Good move by the TBA, BUT bad move, VERY BAD MOVE ABF.

Also looking at Wayne’s list we are lucky to even be aloud walk down to the shop

still good work TBA!

far out....looks as though we hav nearly the whole world on a travel warning...well arent we lucky we live on a island...

I understand the decision made by TBAL, but travelling the world anywhere is dangerous, hell going down the road in your car is dangerous. I feel for the kids that this years Asian Schools is their last. I can think of many kids that were looking forward to it, and one of the kids that I coach, was her 12 month plan that peaked at the roll offs. It is one of the only Australian teams that is picked totally on merit, and your ability to make the team was done on the weekend. No politics, no fuss, you roll the scores, and you are in the team. Isn't there any other tournament that we can send these kids to? These kids deserve the opportunity to represent their country. I mean, what an awesome achievement. Any thoughts on that out there? What about the kid that was the top all star? Does he get a browny button or a consolation prize? Do we call Larry Emdur and see what is behind door number 2? It is damn difficult to reach the pinnacle, why take an opportunity away?

I am in the same boat as Ashley on this one, i am 110% behind the TBA Stance, but i am shocked and appauled at the decision by ABF.

I think the only way that the tournament will be changed is if other countries take the same stance as Australia and not send a team based on the fact that there are hostile situations. The idea to move the tournament to I THINK Singapore was a good one, or why not bring it here or New Zealand? Although not many people know the reasoning behind the ABF decision, i am hoping someone can shed some light on this.

Lets hope 2006 is somewhere that Australia can send a team, although i will have aged out, 2005 was my last chance :?

While the TBA has made a smart decision it's dissappointing that the ABF will not change the venue, bad luck to all the bowlers which this would have been their last year.

Well only one more chance to go in 2006...

The decision is disappointing but at the same time nothing can be done about it now!! TBA have made a great decision because i know if the team that went over were killed or even injured TBA would be up for massive amounts of dollars in compensation!! And we probably wouldnt have a national body!! Disappointing but safety must come first hey!!

While I understand what Wayne is on about here, i feel that Indonesia poses more of a threat to Australians than many of the places mentioned in his post given the recent history of specific attacks and threats against Australians and their interests in Indonesia.

As for Australians coaching in such places, well, the money might be real good, but i wouldn't go there, even if offered (not that its likely to happen in the near future LOL)
