It was a much less politically correct time. Gary Williams answered to the nickname of "Snowflake" Thanks Dale. Should have remembered that.

    Nostalgic stroll back in time...

Next to Batson is Rod Thomson (WA). Centre of the Middle row is (I think) Brian Hamer (WA). Far right of the back row is, I think, Alan Atkins (Qld) and the other side of Bob Cook is Gary(?) Williams (NSW) Is the tall gentleman in the back row possibly Tony Plenca (Qld)?

    Ball Spinner Ideas?

NO names no pack drill, but I had the use of a home made spinner in said un named centre (which I was very grateful for the use of at the time), which was based on a washing machine. It worked brilliantly. Once you had waited 8 minutes for the wash cycle to end and the spin cycle to start...

    "MO"tion Drilling/Balance Hole

I've done 4 of these and by way of comparison, each ball post "MOtion Hole" displayed a) Greater push down lane b) Greater angle of entry to the pocket and most importantly c) Greater retention of kinetic energy at the pocket leading to more pin action and greater carry. What I have also...

No WA Rachuig Team 2013 - is this really in the best interests of the sport?

Whilst I hope this isn't true, it would not surprise me if it is. The ridiculous financial impost that WA has had to bear to send teams away over the last decade and a half has to have a flow on effect at some stage. Until the more remote states like WA receive assistance to field their...

What a difference an OIL PATTERN makes.

The word I get from Keon Park is they are playing even drier  than they did for us. Mind you, the guys who are really hitting it are smashing it. On edit: Just checked the scores from today and they are definitely lower than yesterday, even by Sam Cooley who tore it up yesterday. A...

    Unacredited Coaching

nev25, don't take this the wrong way, but being accredited is not the be all and end all. There are too many coaches trying to coach everyone in a "cookie cutter" way, trying to make the same techniques work for everyone. Trust me, they don't! Attempts were made to change Belmo and...

    Unacredited Coaching

I think you will find it was coaches who tried to change Belmo in his formative years. Purely because NO-ONE knew how to coach the 2 handed technique! I recall Belmo stating during an interview that it was one of the state team coaches who told him he would never amount to anything as a 2 hander.

    Andy McKay - 300 no.2

Yep, that's right, the old fella, after 40 years without a 300 has now shot 300 no.2 only 12 months after the first. Monday night at AMF Cross Rd in the SuperLeague on WTBA Montreal. (Don't worry mate, won't tell them about the 4 brooklyns ........... Oops too late )

    Unacredited Coaching

Well, to be honest Nev, your original post ONLY refers to "Young adults". As such the inference would lead most people to believe you are referring to juniors/youth bowlers. (On edit - Thanks for stealing my thunder Robbie! ;)) Having said that, I don't believe the coaching (or lack of) is...

8pins start for women, did it work?

You're slowing up in your old age Chin. Took you all of 5 minutes to get that one in LOL

8pins start for women, did it work?

Main problem with that is a 189 average bowler in a real tough centre will almost always be a far better bowler than a 191 average bowler in a much easier house. Until there is a rating system for centres like there is for golf clubs, this idea would be completely inequitable. What everyone is...

Tournaments. What do bowlers really want? Can TBA do more?

Dean I have been bowling tournaments in Australia (and overseas) for over 30 years. I have seen tournaments with over 130 entries (Melbourne Cups in their heyday) all the way down to events with barely enough bowlers to make a cut. In most cases these days, it's not the tournament format or...

8pins start for women, did it work?

Yes, but after her first win, she would have lost the 8 pin advantage so she would have gone back to competing at scratch anyway, so that point becomes moot. I personally feel that the 8 pin bonus for women is not a bad thing. Indeed i believe it is needed for Seniors tournaments in order to...

Serious Question. How does a BALL affect CARRY

Jim, it is extremely difficult to get 4 different balls (even with 4 differentlayouts to react the same way. 1. COVERSTOCK The coverstock is the part of the ball that contacts the lane, the tyres of the car if you like. Therefore it is the single most significant aspect of a bowling balls...

What a difference an OIL PATTERN makes.

OUtside of Brian Looby who had a pretty good weekend, do you HONESTLY believe the seniors would have done any better on this condition than the other 2 we have already seen this year? I, for one, do not purely because the majority of seniors can only play in their comfort zones, whereas todays...

    Its even tougher.

Actually Dougy, Tennis player DO get to practice the surface they are going to play on in the days leading up to the tournament, including centre court (usually for the top seeds) and the nets at each ground are supposed to be representative of what they are going to find on the match pitch...
