i think the ashes should stay with the winning team it gives it more fun and reason to want to play good cricket. I heard i think it was Michael Slater that said that if you win 5-0 and i think that a win is a win. I heard that they want the ashes to stay in England because they want are a museum attraction in Lords.

Absolute no-brainer. Keep it Down Under where it belongs.

But the same argument comes up everytime we win the series so I don't think it's gonna make much difference

It should definately stay with the winners.

If the poms take it home regardless of a win or loss then what the hell are we playing for

It should be displayed in various Australian Cities for all fans to have a look

Yeah they will stay in Oz for the next 100 years

Damn Straight....

But it will always go back to england cause they have to make sure there country can always look at what they cant win twice in a row...

one times a fluke, twice in a row takes skill, to beat the aussie in australia....Tell them there dreaming...

Touche! :D

I was thinking more that it's the only piece of international silverware that they have a chance of winnin apart from Rugby Union

I think one of the major considerations is their fragility due to age. They will not put up with continual transport. In theory it is a no brainer winning country should get to keep ashes but in practice it is a bit more complicated - which is why they have the crystal ashes trophy instead.

As Ian Healy said if there so worried about transporting the Ashes all the time then why dont they just save them a trip and keep them here :p

The Ashes trophy goes to the winning team every time.

The thing people forget is that the little urn isn't the actual trophy being played for. It was a momento given to the English captin after a social game in Melbourne and sat on his mantle at home for the next 40 odd years till his widow gave them to the MCC. The ashes and the urn have nothing to do with international cricket at all.

what do you mean the ashes urn has nothing to do with international cricket? if it has nothing to do with international cricket then why do we have an "ashes" series?

Really, it's up to the family who bequeathed the Ashes urn to the MCC on whether it should leave Lords for a long period of time.
It's their call.
I would like to see it stay in the home country of the winning team from each series, but there's the fragility of the urn that does need to be taken into account.
Given how sh*t the Poms were in this series it could be awhile before it would be travelling on plane back to Lords if it were to stay in one place due to fragility concerns.
