Wineries in SA

Hi there,
Heading to SA to bowl at Easter. Been a long time since I have been to Adelaide. Any ideas as to which wineries are the best to visit. Be staying in the CBD

Thanks Lefty:):):)

Not a winery tip, but well worth it for the visitor. A friend of mine took me to a favourite pub of hers on a work trip to Adelaide recently. The Kings Head Hotel on King William St, Adelaide CBD specialises in SA beer, wine and food. The folks behind the bar will let you taste what's on tap before you commit too, which is nice.

Use the "I'm from out of town and don't have a clue" routine. And do purchase a glass of Maxwell's "Silver Hammer" Shiraz!

Cheers,
Jason

Thanks Jason,
wow what an interesting concept. I like that idea and would certainly visit the hotel whilst i am there. Yeah the 'out of town, I am new here' good call

cheers lefty:)

If you're looking for wineries take a day trip out to the barossa valley, there's usually one or two going from the city. The bigger wineries like wolf blass and Penfolds out at Nurioopta, and Peter Lehmanns in Tanunda are good to see but lack the character of some of the smaller wineries only a guide might know is there.
Gibson winery is good value, very small but the guy there knew his stuff and was very helpfull, just a bit out the back of Wolf Blass actually, in Light Pass.
And if you're a fortified drinker Tanunda is worth a drive through.

Others on the list would be Bethany Wines in Bethany and for a bigger winery - Chateau Tanunda still has some charm about it. I've also heard good things about Sons of Eden in Angaston and Mad Dog in Tanunda. Can't say I've been to those wineries though.

Hi Grimmace 25,

Excellent thank you for your detailed report on the wineries. I will check on or two of them on my visit to SA

Many Thanks Lefty :)
