I wish to take this opportunity to express deepest sympathies to the Cowen family on behalf of all Southern bowlers on the news of the death of stalwart Southern bowler David "Barry" Cowen on July 4 2002, aged 59 years.
"Barry" was a long-time league bowler in Sponsors League in the 1980's and 1990's and was an immensely popular figure within the bowling community in Hobart during this time.
It was heartening to see a strong roll-up around 300-people - many bowlers (both former and current) from Moonah - at this afternoon's funeral.
Deepest sympathies to Maureen and Family.
