After all the conversation about the Super 6 formats lately and all the ideas being thrown around lately I thought i would just chuck in a few, obviously there not perfect nor am I saying there better than anyone elses just some ideas to be criticized by the bowling public.
Top 16 make matchplay – all prize money from entries exceeding the prize fund forumla goes towards qualifying payouts.
So say the prize fund is based on 60 entrant but they get 80, the prize money from those 20 extra entries goes towards a qualifying prize fund. This prize money could then be distributed to say the top 3-5 qualifiers, possibly the whole 16, or maybe the qualifying prize fund could go to those below the cut, but then this goes against my whole idea of rewarding the top qualifiers.
OK, so here we have 16 bowlers who have made the cut, yet the top 3 are 200 pins ahead of the rest of the field and most below lose hope and try to make a few extra bucks from the minor placings in match play. Going from Frawls comments earlier, 15 games match play is plenty enough to decide the best bowler, pinfall does not need to be carried over from qualifying. So we could completely drop pinfall and the higher you qualify would still be rewarded from the money you earn in qualifying. But this still makes for an exciting matchplay as anyone could win from the go, and rewards consistent bowling, someone could go out and average 235 in qualifying then cruise to the win on a 215 matchplay average with the bonus pins they win. Which also brings up another idea, how can you reward a bowler with TWENTY pins for a win, that’s just absolutely huge and brings in the whole aspect of getting lucky on the day and winning more games even though you may not have bowled better than some others in matchplay. Just look at it like this if you won all your games that’s an extra 300 pins!!!
That paragraph contained a lot of information so here it is in points:
•Pinfall does NOT carry over
•Anyone can win from the get go in matchplay
•Rewards the consistent bowler who can perform on both days
•Lower the amount of bonus pins you get for a win, 10 for a win 5 for a draw
No obviously in no way is this perfect, just a few things I thought about by myself as well as discussing it with other bowlers. I don’t think we could have a perfect tournament but it seems most people want to see a change on the Australian circuit.’
So please do criticize this for all its worth
