Stat Freak

Hi,

Just wanted to know if there are any other statistic freaks like me out there. I love statistics and when i can create my own by bowling it makes it all the more fun. I use Microsoft Excel 2000 and have page after page of statistics and graphs of every game i have bowled since i returned to bowling in 2002. Since then i have played 1205 games, in all competition, league and practice :p :p

Is anyone else out there a statistic freak like me and done something similar??

WOW! Now that's commitment.

I would love to do something similar, but unfortunately there aren't enough days in the week!

My mother has recorded or have a record very game see has bowled for last 20 years and they are 99% hand written.

Like to see someone match that.

I have been doing the same, using Microsoft Excel but only since the start of the year.

I've even go so far as to color my games.
200+
180 - 199
179 and below

I also have a count on how many 200 I have bowled, my week average and my overall average too. I don't do graphs yet...but what the hell, I'll go and do that now.

I bowled my first game on 2nd October 1978 as a 12 year old (it was a score of 87). Since then i have recorded every single game i have bowled over the past 27 years. In that time i have bowled 7,254 games, knocked over 1,294,656 pins at an average of 178.475. I have bowled 1522 games above 200 and had 253 x 600 series (i bowled in 2 game leagues for the first 8-10 years). Don't ask me why a 12 yr old would start an exercise book of bowling scores but i did - now it is in MS Access and MS Excel. I also have it on a web site. Recently i started to compile data for Victorian country cup which has now been going for 25 years. I have data for about 18 of the 25 years so far (yeah - i obviously have too much time on my hands!)

I haven't gone all out and created an excel spreadsheet or anything, but i did get my hands on a copy of Ebonite's Personal Bowler Coordinator. It calculates, strike, spare, open or split % over games, tracks your open frame misses, strong points in your game, ie, which frames you tend to strike in. The program could be simplified in its process, but it still great.

Pebbles.

wow, lots of people do the same. My fiancee wont listen to me ramble on about my stats.

I keep records of ever game i bowl in league and in practice.
In league, I use the cool COUNTIF function to count my games in the 150's, 160's 170's etc etc and then work out what percentage of my games they are, count my 180+, 190+ and 200+, 500+ (if 3 game league), 700+ (4 games), average (i even use the roundown figure so i can calculate my handicap with no remainder), high game/series, low game and series, 5 week average (for a form trace) and times over average and thats per league.

For the year page i have totals, as well as using COUNTIF to count my series' in the ranges eg. 500-520, 521-540 etc, percentages on them too, average comparison compared to last year (so i can see if i am ahead or behind last year and by how many pins), i also have graphs of the averages and pinfall.

I also made a monthly average page recently, so i can see how i do each month and have graphs for the averages by month.

And an overall page with all the leagues, practice years and competitions, averages and pinfall, games and high scores per league

I could go on and on but then you will know how my fiancee feels hehehe

Yeah I used to collate the stats and historical information for the footy club for quite awhile there. Always kept stats and stuff for my bowling, it's sitting in boxes around here most of it.

This is the all-time league one (both Junior & Adult) that I managed to collate and put together.

All the tournament games info, I haven't even got to yet, probably won't do either for years.

i got a stat for yas...

4 rachuig attempts... 4 teams made :D

heheh

sorry, im bored

Have every league score I have ever bowled on bowling cards and in Excel. 1985 - present day. Still working on adding a worksheet for a by lane break down for all of the games. Over 5000 games and 9 centres.

Also working on producing a worksheet to record pin leaves. I record every frame I bowl in league and tournament play. Have this for a large majority of the league games 1990 - present. Prior to this used to get the old Magic score printouts of every game (a bit faded now I might add). Use pin leave information to improve my game when I go to practice.

Yes may be boring, but Tiger Woods doesn't care if you think he his boring and his bank manager certainly doesn't.

I, myself dont record every single bit of info on my bowling but i do keep a record on my personal score card of what games i bowl (scratch), the series, my scratch pin fall n grand average of my scratch pin fall to see if im averagin over or under my actual average... it would be amazin for me to actually do what these other guys are doin but i wouldnt know how... it doesnt help not having the right programs either... maybe doin all the graphs and pins that i leave would help me in my game to know where i should be getting more strikes and tryin to get higher scores in tournaments that i bowl in and league... is that possible though? would it actually help me or anybody for that matter? it would be interesting to know this.

Matty (aka - Tiger) you are a freak! ;-)

I have over periods of time kept records for league seasons or years, but like some others have said, there just doesn't seem to be enough time to keep them up-to-date, so these have gone by the wayside ...... it would be great to have though to look back on.

As for keeping 'practice' games within the records that shouldn't be too hard. I can honestly say after quite a few years of competitve bowling (approx 10 years) I doubt I would have even racked up 100 'practise' games - half of which would have been after getting a new ball punched out. I always relied on league and tournaments and of course i'm not counting official state team practices etc ..... I would have however have racked up a few frames worth of instructor-mat - but only ever used that occasionally when i knew i had something specific that i needed to work on. Needless to say I wasn't a big fan of practise ..... a combination of the cost involved and other interests i suppose.

I've kept frame by frame scores for all the games I've bowled since starting up again earlier this year, entering them into a web app I've been working on (142 games!). I'll eventually get around to generating some graphs from the data :)

I am a perfectionist at heart! if I don't get a score that I feel I can potentially get, I give up on my score keeping!

I have managed to get about three games on a score card!!! :D

When Strikezone first opened, on the very first day of Legends, everyone was given a scorecard to keep track of their progress and I thought "Right, from today on I will keep track of every game I throw in this league, regardless of how good or bad it is...". Didnt happen...shot an absoloute shocker that wekk and thought "Screw this..."

I don't chart scores, take stats ect... waste of time.

I know in my own head if I bowl well. You can throw the ball like a complete idiot and shoot 270+ (done that) but you can also throw the ball great, hit your target almost every shot, and get shafted for 190 (been there too)

Had to chart our rounds for golf while in the state team... where we hit each shot, what club ect ect.... Ever heard of the term "paralysis by analysis"?? You get so caught up with trying to make your stats look good, you forget about playing the game.

The less I think, the better.
