Silly question I know, but....

I'm still standin'
At Mt Gravatt on Sunday, I watched in amazement as their kegel machine oiled the lanes - with not a power cord in sight. Is it remote controlled, transistorised or what, and is it common with the new kegel machines these days?
Having never seen it before I was just curious......

It's the latest machine from Kegal............they call it the Kustodian Ion.

The dry cell battery that Tonx has mentioned, is called a "Ion"...............the Yanks are always inventing and or using words to make things sound technical, new or exciting.

Though from what I have heard the battery has quite a life span compared to the batteries we currently use.

No, its not remote controlled, though it probably has a few transistors on board, I wouldn't call it transistorised eithier.
Its basically a self driven programmable computerised machine, capable of cleaning and conditioning lanes.............quite a marvel of modern ingenuity, but like all machines, absolutely useless unless its maintained and serviced correctly.

Like all modern marvels of ingenuity it will be superseeded in the near future, the speed at which they keep producing lane maintenance equipment is astounding.............

Kegal still produce a machine with a power cord, though it's obviously a lot more convinent to use the machine without having to drag a lead around and across approaches whilist people bowl..........it's only a matter if time before a social bowler trips up on a power cord and sues a bowling centre for undue care.

I do not know what the machine is selling for in Australia, but if I had to have a guess, I would say around $50,000..............whatever their selling it for, it will take a lot of Tenpin games before it returns a profit..............or eliminates a court case......

John nothing wrong with Mentone machine , things happen that you can not control and this is what happened shame on you as you know Steve put in allot to the sport and have yet to meet a Centre Manager with that much passion for the game and the bowlers ](*,)
Funny how quick we are to put down a centre when thing go wrong, and how slow we are to give mention when they have done well .

c'mon now KJ......I didn't make ANY aspersions as to oil quantity - just wanted to know how the machine worked.

To all the knowledgable ones who answered my question - thank you!!!;)

Jeanette. when you have the entire Rachuig rolloff telling the tech to pull the cord off the lane and they don't, me thinks something is wrong, but this is a debate that should be left for the organising committee along with the manager of mentone, and not in this thread. I'll give credit where it is due, the first block was fine, playable and fair. but the second???
