Well I was at the 'G' last Sunday when the Mexican Wave was banned and really it didnt stop the wave from going round the ground. Yes i participated in the wave too so technically i am breaking the law so to speak.
Early in the game the crowd started, what i am guessing could be called the Australian Wave where people would stand and wave both arms frantically in the air across the ground to other people. In return they would do it back. When it caught on you could have 95% of the bottom level wave madly and it looked good.
Then the old BAY 13 area started into the wave and it would travel around the ground quite a number of times - WITH NOTHING BEING THROWN INTO THE AIR!!! As the match rolled on it began to getting a bit crazy with fights in the crowd, tonnes of people being thrown out for bringing their own alcohol in, sculling beers, throwing beachballs and occassionally for starting the wave!
The issue of throwing rubbish in the air really didnt arise til later in the game (presumably when everyone was really drunk) and u could see piles of empty cups, full bottles of water and so on being thrown.
So where is the issue???? The issue of throwing rubbish in the air during the wave or stopping people from getting drunk and acting like idiots????
