Australian internationals George Frilingos and Emma Rutten claimed the titles in the 5th stop of the Australian Super 6 Tour, the New South Wales Open at AMF Dee Why Bowl.
Frilingos, who led the field after qualifying with a 238,5 average, won 10 of his 15 matches in match play on his way to a 5963 total to successfully defend his title. This is the second consecutive Super 6 title for Frilingos after winning the Queensland Cup in Brisbane in June. Ron Voukolos moved up from fifth after qualifying to second with 5821. Andrew McArthur compiled the field-best 11-4 win-loss record in Matchplay, with a 228,33 average to leap from 13th to third place, 5818.
Emma Rutten made the qualifying cut in seventh position with a 202,2 average, 4 pins ahead of former World Champion Ann-Maree Putney and 10 pins ahead of former PWBA professional Maxine Nable, who missed the cut in 9th place. Rutten then averaged 233,29 in match play, won four of her seven matches and tied one, to overtake six players and take the women's title with 3745 total. Nable & Queenslander Kate Wilton from Queensland bowled the only perfect games of the weekend.
Putney posted the second-best match play average with 229,29 and won all but one match to finish second with 3743, mere two pins behind Rutten. Qualifying leader Debbie Baldock had the third-best average with 209,71 but had to settle for third place with 3742, three pins short of victory and one pin short of second place.
