The first tie for 1st place in Balls Hcp. that we can recall since the inception of the Tour in 1999 happened this weekend at Logan City - new bowler from NT and now a Qlder, Keith Mellor and Ben Madden from Toowoomba took the honours with 227.8 hcp. which was only 2 pins ahead of 3rd place Mitchell Armstrong.
Ben, especially was a very proud lad and congrats. to all 27 bowlers who made the $$$ placings.
Scratch winner was Luke Rafton (229.8) who headed Ian Schuler (221.0) and leftie Jon King (219.3). Great to hear the rivalry amongst the left and right handed bowlers - looks like it is ON for 2012. Keith has joined the strong contingent of talented lefties in the Tour so the battle lines have been drawn !!
Scratch Pool attracted 23 bowlers for $460 Pool which was won by Luke with Jon King and 2 Toowoomba bowlers, Cory Knowles and Sean Vettiger in 3rd & 4th.
The strong Toowoomba 'team' was led by 15yr.old Gabrielle Vettiger who dominated the Puffs Hcp. with her 230.9 hcp. ahead of the loyal Loretta Knowles (214 hcp). The third Toowoomba bowler in the Top 9 money winners was Paula Troy in 7th.
Scratch Puffs was also a tie - Bek Meads and Tanya Stevenson both had aves. of 211.
With 110 bowlers for the weekend, and missing our Ipswich friends who had their Assn. roll offs today, a good start to the year which by the cameraderie shown on the lanes, looks like being a fiery and competitive one. Many thanks to our sponsors and especially to the staff (all of them!) at Logan City Tenpin who certainly made the weekend a lot easier. THANKS TO THE BOWLERS who continue to support and nice to see some 'old' faces who have returned for another stint with us ..... and to the 'newbies' who seem to just 'fit in' - ENJOY!
