If you were selecting a team, think of the things you would like in a player, I can tell you that a huge amount of information is used to select teams.
Some of the things are as follows:
1. Team selected from NTS (National Training Squad)
2. Past experience is taken into account (how they have performed in past teams)
3. Current form is taken into account (rankings)
4. Suitability with other team members
5. Bowlers ability to adjust to varying lane conditions (short & long patterns)
6. Ability to bowl under pressure
7. Commitment & Dedication (Proud to represent Australia)
8. Attitude
Remember that after the team has bowled, coach & manager reports on bowlers performance, that can be an important tool to have for the next team selection!!
There are many other things a team selector has to look at, and I can assure you it is not easy, having done it myself, desicions are not taken likely, when you have to consider TBA spends many thousands of dollars to send each bowler away.
Think of how many bowlers we have in this country who can medal, and who you can honestly rank in the top 50 in the world or just in the Asian Region?
You may not believe that there are a huge number of Coaches throughout this country which work very hard to lift the standard of bowlers everywhere, but I can tell you that is not an easy task in itself.
Sit down for a few minutes and think about what you would like in an Australian Team Representative and you will have your answer.
